Party for 9 yr old girls - at home

Must have been mad but decided that this year dd would have her party at home as it would be easier to be flexible on numbers. Now that it's all set up, I'm wondering how I'm going to keep them all happy for 2 hours! Any suggestions?

Making jewellry!

ELC have beads on offer atm and they could make necklaces and bracelets to take home instead of a goodie bag.

Design t-shirts. Buy some cheap, plain white t-shirts and some fabric pens. They love it and they can wear them for months afterwards. Friend of mine had a sleepover party for her daughter and they designed pillow cases. Again, bought some cheap white pillow cases and fabric pens. Keeps them amused for ages and something good to put into party bag too. Have fun - you are very brave!

Oh yes, thanks, those are both great ideas. I was thinking of cooking something, but we only have one fairly small oven and there could be quite a lot of them!!

Any more ideas greatfully received...

what about some simple non cook sweets like peppermint creams that could be cut out and decorated?

mmm....I only have boys so it is tricky to know what 9yr old girls like!

think a craft party of jewellry making and tshirt painting is the way to go....have tea and then painting nails??? Are they too young for that??

foofi · 02/03/2008 11:26

No, not too young at all. Sweets are a good idea too - thanks.

Do you have anything like this near you?

Not sure - might be a bit short notice anyway. Think I will give it a go myself!

My DD was 9 back in Feb. She invited 8 friends round, they thundered upstairs and sat in her room putting on lipgloss and chatting with some music on (HSM of course!) then they thundered downstairs and scoffed the buffet, thundered back in the front room for some karaoke then thundered back upstairs to sit together and chat and brush each other's hair and just "be".

They loved it, DD loved it, I loved it.

Three hours they were here and it was a breeze.

Last year I organised them more (there were 14 of them!, sat to the table to eat, did a pop quiz thing, more games like musical bumps etc.

They were happy. They are used to bowling parties and McDonalds parties and soft play parties etc - a party at home is a novelty and they will love whatever you do for them.

friend of mine hired a big cine screen thing and had film, popcorn and sleepover

t-shirt painting a brilliant idea, DD went to a party like this (9th) and it seemed v easy and she LOVES her t-shirt which was also her going-home present.

Apart from decorating t-shirts they just hung out, listened to music and had tea and the birthday cake... she loved it.

We've done a pyjama party before where they all painted their own pillowcases (£1 each from Primark). If in the evening, you could also make pizzas and follow with hot chocolate with all the trimmings (marshmallows, chocolate flake and cream).

Thanks you lot. I like the karaoke idea too.
