My DD is going to be 7 next week but it falls on a weekday. Was planning a day out with a few of her mates for the ff weekend but not possible anymore as she has a very important ballet recital that weekend. Want to make bday special but loads of obstacles at the mo'..... what can I do???

Option 1: plan after school meet @ activity centre/cinema followed by movie. Obstacle....short notice for parents of friends, school night.

Option 2: Move date of get-together back to 2-3 weeks time. Obstacle....too far from actual birth date, might not feel so special for DD

ANY ADVICE PLS?

Ring around the parents and test the water for an outing on her actual birthday? You never know, maybe they can all make it

Thanks for prompt advice... will do that asap. Do u think the "activity centre/cinema followed by meal" idea will work or should I have them round ours for a craft themed party with party food?

When mine were that age I always had 2 or 3 of their friends round for tea and a birthday cake on their actual birthday. Much nicer to do something special on the actual day. They love the 'birthday treat' of a film or whatever, but it's always lovely to mark the proper day.

What time does the ballet recital finish? It would be fun to get together with her friends afterwards. Pointless to leave it 2 or 3 weeks at that age imo.

Sorry, I'd gone to bed before I saw your last post
I think the craft themed party & food at your place sounds lovely, actually, and less to organise in a way? Also, home parties always have a unique atmosphere.
Even if only a small handful of her friends can make it, they're bound to have a ball

I did a craft party for my DD's 7th birthday and it went down a storm. The items they made doubled as party bag gifts, and they're old enough to do most things independently. I got most of my stuff from Baker Ross.

Think the craft party idea sounds great. You have the advantage of being able to set up while she's at school so all ready to go when you get home. Would suggest a light snack, crafts then a party tea and the friends can still be home and in bed at normal time.

Thanks guys, took on board your wise words and dd had her friends over for tea after school. They had so much fun with arts & craft stuff I got and playing dress up that they didn't want to leave at the end..... DD was so happy and has made some new friends which makes me very happy...

That's lovely you all enjoyed her birthday so much. Lots of gold stars for mum.
