I always go for a book (10 for £10 in works) and a bag of sweets.

They are called Fuck off home bags and they are traditionally stuffed with sweets and cheap tat like bubbles and rubbers (not condoms) but it's more environmentally friendly to go for a book and sweets. As long as you have something to hand out to signify it's time for them to leave, no one really cares but kids get very upset not to have been handed at least something

Recently we've received a wrapped up book, a giant bubble wand, plastic tat, bouncy ball, temporary tattoos, stickers, haribo.

In my five year olds party bags I put some bubbles, a Malteser bunny, a pack of wildflower seeds and a suncatcher for them to paint. All stuff that I knew would be used and not chucked in the bin when they got home.

😂😂😂😂

My daughter has been given a slinky in party bags (big hit), some bubbles, colouring crayons and a book, a neon pink ink stamp (my pale carpets and sofa wasn't a fan!!!) and some sweets. I'd say steer away from sweets probably - most of my kid's friends aren't allowed sweets so they go in the bin 🤷‍♀️

Seeds is a good shout. Something like cress that grows fast!

NuffSaidSam · 09/06/2023 23:21

Nothing! Just give them a slice of birthday cake and be done with. They don't need a bag of landfill to take home with them.

If you absolutely must then book/seeds/paper stickers/bag of sweets are all good options.

Poundland or tescos sometimes have really cheap beach bucket sets (£1/£1.50), and by the time you get a selection of tat you may as well have bought something more substantial. Yes they are plastic but we saw friends playing with them at the park/beach for years afterwards. Just wrap up and pop a slice of cake in the bucket with the other bits.

I had done 3 birthday parties so far for my sons and I had used these: -

  • stationary like pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, post-it
  • pair of socks
  • keyrings
  • sweatbands for wrist
  • glowsticks
  • Balloon
  • stickers
  • snacks ie chocolate, haribo, chuppa chups, those lunchbox multipacks like mini jammy wheels r great too
youngestisapsycho · 14/06/2023 07:49

How much are people spending to send kids home with stuff? And why? We used to give a slice of cake wrapped up and and a small bag of sweets.

canigetitmyself · 14/06/2023 07:50

Packet of haribo and a balloon is fine
Maybe some stickers

canigetitmyself · 14/06/2023 07:54

Dont put these in please 🙏

Plastic snap on bracelets
Plastic stretchy toys
Whistles
Rubber stretchy caterpillar
Chupa chubs

I used to do a lucky dip so one bigger thing rather than a bag full of crap.
