I like to give some sweets and a "thing" of some sort for party bags, rather than a lot of bits and pieces. So far, ds has had helium filled balloons, torches and magic tricks. And ideas for this year? I need 20, so not too expensive. And I thought of books, but I have realized that he has invited a HUGE range of reading ability, so that would be tricky. Would magnets be a good idea?

Have you got a "factory shop" near you? They have loads of lovely arts and craft bits which are very cheap and perfect for little girlies. I got some little rag doll kits from there last year for some party bags and they were only 50p each. They also have things like pipe cleaner/ pompom/ sequin sets/ pen sets/ note books at very reasonable prices. Thier actual party stuff like plates and napkins are very cheap too.

Sorry just realise you said ds and not dd but there are still lots of boy things too!

Try Hawkins Bazaar as they have lots of bits and pieces.

You could try the Book People and buy different ranges of books. Non fiction perhaps for those who are good readers.

cheapy calculators?

How much do you wanyt to spend?

Last time we gave a tub of giant crayons from Muji, but this was for toddlers. They have loads of great things in their childrens range, and fairly cheap too.

We especially love the 'cities in a bag', they are a really fun toy.

We have Cities in a Bag too - I like giving them to grown ups. Actually some of their office-y things would be good for the girls, wouldn't they?

Those t shirts that are shrink wrapped into cubes would be cool too?

How much do I want to spend? As little as possible......! but realistically a couple of quid. The "cities would be too much, I think - aren't they five pound-ish?

But yes, girls and boys of that age seem to love unusual stationary etc.

Ah soory, I missed that you need 20! lol.

I love the giant paperclip sets in muji, I think they are about £2

There is a pack of 10 joke books on the Book People for about £10. I have ordered this for DS's birthday party - I reckon 7yo boys are quite into bad jokes and hopefully will appeal to a range of reading ages and is a book without being too worthy IYSWIM.

aw, was just going to suggest Book People joke books! I used those as extras at Christmas and think they'd be fab. Otherwise would have a look in the pound shops - I noticed a blister pack with a pack of cards and a set of dominoes last time i was looking. Or a Beano/Dandy comic - wouldn't fit in a bag but you could roll up and put gift ribbn round it?
