IDEAS FOR 8 & 11 YEAR OLD GIRLS' (SEPARATE) PARTIES

DD1 & DD3 both share a birthday which falls in school hols so we need a party during term. 11 year old a bit of a tom-boy but not very sporty (enjoys being outside and getting muddy but not playing football). 8 year old more girly but not scarily so: loves her bike and her playmobil. Last year the then 10 year old's friends painted t-shirts, made their own pizza and sundaes. The then 7 year olds brought favourite teddies and dressed them in dolls clothes (freshly laundered in advance!), made jewellry for them using old bead sets and played assorted teddy-related games. Cinema not an option ("you don't get time to play"). We live in Dublin so Go-Ape/ climbing wall not available (or is there similar somewhere that I don't know about? 11 year old would love it). Swimming in Newpark and home for tea is best I can come up with... or Bray bowl.. any ideas please. Make-overs not an option (skin allergies/ early sexualisation of kids etc - see nick-name!) but what about sleep-over for older girl: how many to have? can they sleep on floor? what do they do?.

Older girl: DVD and pizza night, with or without sleepover

Younger: craft party? I did one using stuff from Baker Ross

Thanks for suggestions: think we'll go with crafty stuff for younger one but older one a bit sniffy about DVD/ pizza ("err... where's the party in that") She's actually a lovely kid (despite what that comment may suggest!) and now has a nice group of friends after some tough years... Any more ideas out there?

DD had a bowling party for her 8th,
DS had a lazer quest party for his 11th. DD really wanted to join in too, not just for boys.

Bowling then pizza hut/similar? Do you have anything like Laserquest? Does your 11 year old have any ideas herself about what she'd like ? 11's a difficult age, but perhaps she'd come up with something you haven't thought of? Or even a "grown up" meal out for a group of pals, with you keeping an eye on them from the distance? Wasn't it so much easier when they wanted pass the parcel and jelly?!!!!

For DD birthday when she was 10, we made a "make a memory" party. What they did was, came in and decorated their own pizza. then I took photos of groups of children "THEIR CHOICE" Then they ate their pizza. when they had finished pizza, we all sang Happy Birthday. Then we moved into the conservatory and all children had photos to a small photo album that I had made out of card. If you are interested then I am willing to givr instructions!

Have to say they had great fun pulling funny faces, then they decorated the photos (we stuck them on luggage labels) very simple yet very effective.

Thanks for those ideas. Fishpie: I'm intrigued! Can you explain a bit more? Thanks

Sorry just seen your reply!

Basically what I did was made a folded up piece of card and slotted luggage tags into pockets of folded card (so you had 4 pockets in card that you could slot luggage tags into!)
We took lots of photos on a digital camera and printed them off at passport size. Children chose which photos they wanted. In the conservatory I had already placed out plenty of glue sticks, things to decorate the luggage labels, ribbons etc. Gave children ideas on how they could decorate their luggage tag etc.

I have to say it was the most relaxing party I have ever hosted, there was no running around, and even a parent asked if I got someone in to do the party! I felt really chuffed at this comment!

If you would like me to send a template of the folded card and luggage label I am more than happy to send you a copy!

Either E mail me on [email protected] or reply on this thread and I will check a bit more regulary than I had with this one!
