Dd is 4 next Tuesday and will be at playgroup in the morning then dancing lesson in the afternoon. We're having a party on Sunday when she will get some presents from her friends and I'm sure she won't want to wait until Tuesday to open them! Dh can't take any time off on Tuesday so either he wouldn't see her opening her presents (at lunch time probably) or she'd have to wait until he gets home. It's his 30th on Monday so she will be extra excited...
So do we pretend it's her bday on Sunday and give her all her pressies then or keep them all until Tuesday evening? Family won't be here and will just send presents. We'd probably make a special tea for her on the Tuesday regardless of when we 'do' presents'.
TIA!

Up until they were 5, my children always celebrated their birthdays at the weekend - they didn't know the difference. Now they might have a party at the weekend - and open friends/ relatives presents then - and open our presents on their actual birthday. They like that actually, as it makes their birthday last longer!

ds's 4th was a monday, he had his present from us in the morning, went to school, then we had a party straight after school for him and 7 friends.
I don't think you need to pretend anything, she has her party and opens those presents on Saunday.
You could then have your and family presents on her birthday (at whatever time you see fit - for me presents are always opened as soon as you wake up) and have a cake after tea.

ds's 5th I mean. His 3rd we were on holiday and his 4th was a sunday - we had his party that day.

At 4 we had the parties at the weekend, similar to haggis.
Ds will be six next week and has been counting down the days since Christmas, so we're having party (23 manic 6 year olds...gulp) this weekend and a special tea on his actual birthday.
He'll also bring the dreaded sweets to school.

Well I just spoke to dh and he's going to be away on business from Monday morning until Wednesday so looks like my plans for his bday on the Mon are out the window! Think it also means we'll have to open all dd's presents on the Sunday morning before her party then I'll do a special tea for the two of us on the Tuesday [sigh]
We are also going out for a family meal on the Saturday so I suppose spreading her bday from then until Tuesday might be a bit much...
