She will be 7 in 3 weeks and I have not got a clue what to do for her birhday. Last year we had a craft party in the house for her and 8 friends. She is so into animals and has recently started volunteering at the local farm as a helper that I wondered if I could do something like this for her birthday. The problem is that she is also incredibly girly but her best friend is not so a pamper party etc wouldnt go down well. HELP!! am starting to panic.

Do one of those adopt an animal thingd for her? Like a dolphin or something? Or sponsor a guide dog?

It would have to be something that she could physically go and see. We are members at the zoo so that might be an idea.

When my dd was 8 we had a pony party at a local stables which went down really well. None of them had ridden before and the pony the stable owners chose was very docile and sweet. All the girls had a great time and my dd and 5 of her friends (aged 10 as the party was 2 years ago) now ride every week

Drusillas Zoo near us does a 'be a zoo-keeper' party for small groups which looks fun. Have also been to a pony riding party with DD1 and it was ace!

See I had thought of a pony party but my fear is that she will want to ride every week. I currently stay home to look after the dc although this will be changing when dd2 starts school so with only one income money is tight and she already does gymnastics.

Will check out the zoo keeper thing. I know Edinburgh zoo doesnt do it but we have a mini zoo near us and they might.

you have a point. Riding is quite cheap here (12 eu per hour lesson at a good school) but they still need all the gear - hat, body protector, boots etc. But - my daughter adores it more than anything else in the world which makes it worthwhile. She sounds quite like your dd. For Xmas I 'bought' her a wolf to adopt for a year and she was soo happy

Oh and another thing my friend did last year for her dd was to take the kids to the local animal shelter for a couple of hours. They got to play with the cats, rabbits etc and walk a few dogs before a talk by the rescue people, juice and cake then home. They all had a lovely time and it was very cheap to do.

whereabouts are you? ds2 when 7 had fantastic animal party from some people in herts.... they brought all manner of amazing animals to the house.... all v safe and well managed but V V exciting! wasnt dead cheap though....

Does she get to see the wolf, I mean is it in a local zoo or is it just one where she gets sent letters and cards and piccies etc. Might look into the riding thing, she has never done it before so it would be something different.

I think (although I could look into it more) that the only animal shelter we have round here is the dog rescue place and they dont let them in to help till they are 13.

She could see the wolf if we travel to Berkshire but we live in Holland! She got a photo, certificate, regular updates etc etc. If we go to the sanctuary, there is a 'walking with wolves day' which sounds wonderful

There's a group in the south east that bring lizards and snakes etc to you for petting. They came to school a couple of times and the kids loved it.
