my dd is having a 4th birthday party in a room with a clown and am doing a sit down birthday tea (no kitchen so have got to take food with us - so can only do cold stuff)

I'm going to do triangle no crust butties (ham, cheese) but what else?
Some of my friends are v bothered about healthy eating whereas others are happy for kids to have 'party' additives once in a while. One friend suggested I do sticks of raw red and green pepper??? sounds lovely but my dd wouldn't touch them with a barge pole....help!

(don't think I'm helped by the fact that my daughter doesn't eat ANYTHING other than toast and fruit) so I don't know what 'normal' 4yr olds eat.

For DS's 4th birthday the other day I did cheese sandwiches, cold mini sausages, raisins, carton of apple juice, then a pack of mini pringles and a mini roll each (had food boxes). But I guess the last 2 wouldn't go down too well with the healthy eating mums.

breadsticks are good, but you have to have some crisps / biscuits etc. The healthy mums will have to steer their child towards the carrots and grapes!

Cubes of cheese, cucumber and carrot sticks, fruit platter, breadsticks, cocktail sausages. I'm sure only the real killjoys would object to a bowl of crisps being put out as long as there are some of the healthier alternatives available.

I still find clowns creepy and unnerving. They always look so sad, it gives me the shivers!

Right, psrty snacks. Grapes, cubes of cheese, twigletts, babybel cheese, tangarine segents, salami, bread sticks, crackers, socktail sausages, party rings, marshmallows, chocolarte covered raisins... I think as long as you have a mix of fruit, veg, and low salt carbs, you can also have some proper party junk like crisps and chocolate. That will keep the parents happy and the kids happy.

thank you all - great ideas!

Don't worry, I too find clowns v scary, fortunately this is a lady clown who is very friendly, doesn't have a made up face (looks more like a rag doll) and has a magic rabbit - lots of kids seen her before so think we'll be allright!
