My ds is 6 in April. Just got a quote fro a disco party (they play games, play with water pistols etc)and its £175 for 2 hours!

That's before hall hire and food.

Bloody hell.

What?

As you say bloody hell!

leedslass · 15/01/2008 16:13

What area are you in - am sure you can get cheaper than that. However, could you not put music on yourself and organise some traditional party games eg pass the parcel, musical statues, cut the mars bar etc?

moodlumthehoodlum · 15/01/2008 16:15

Blimey. I just got a quote for dd's birthday, (her fourth) and I got £95 for an hour of monkey music lady entertaining 15 children.

Just had anpother quote at £160 so seems to be the norm round these parts.

leedslass I really don't fancy entertaining 30 6 year olds. My idea of hell

OK. Could you just get a magician for an hour. Round here they are about £75. And then just feed them, fill the place with music and balloons and let them happily tear around. Perhaps a treasure hunt or something like that? A few pass the parcels games.

DrNortherner · 16/01/2008 10:21

Called a local magician and he quoted £195 That is for 2 hours, he won't do 1.

OMG!!!

Don't know what else to suggest then. We're doing a party ourselves but I've already decided that I can't do more than 15 or so.

wildwoman · 16/01/2008 10:26

We paid a fab magician £100 for 2 hours and I was at first but he was well worth the money

Rantmum · 16/01/2008 10:28

When ds turns 6 he can have 6 friends over for a party.

By the time he can invite 30, he'll be 30 and then the entertainment's his problem

PortAndLemon · 16/01/2008 10:30

Our local leisure centre do "games" for an extra £10 if you book a party with them.

Hulababy · 16/01/2008 10:31

Entertainers round here (in Sheffield) seem to be at least £100-150 for a 2 hour party. We are lucky. Our friend is a PT DJ and will play music at DD's party for us for a free pint afterwards We chose the buouncy castle option as at £40-£50 it was much cheaper.

Hulababy · 16/01/2008 10:32

I suppose I should start thinking about DD's party in April soon shouldn't I?!

MerlinsBeard · 16/01/2008 10:35

i can do(and have done) the same thing and it sounds pretty reasonable to me - sorry!

I would do it a wee bit cheaper (£100 prob) and would have disco, traditional games (musical bumps etc) however, i will have a newborn bu then so can't do it for you

Where are you based? maybe you could get some recommendations?

(or i can tell you how to hook up your home stereo to a laptop and an itunes )

Hulababy · 16/01/2008 15:04

Your thread has got me sorting things Northerner. Just done some emailing after a netmums search ad found what sounds like an ideal entertainent for DD's 6th party. Found a dance teacher who will do 2 hour dance parties - inc range of dance styles/themes, party games, etc for £80. We just provide food and venue. Going to phone tomorrow to book.
