My twin DDs are 7 in a few weeks and I've told them we are not having a big party in a hall like last year, but they can invite a few friends round for tea after school. I have managed to get their list down to 12.

It'll probably be for a couple of hours, so what can I do with them? Our house isn't very big and I want their time here to be quite structured, rather than charging around getting every game/toy/bead/marble out . Or is that completely impossible?

I would have a look at Baker Ross- get a load of little bags or boxes or something to decorate together with little fake jewels and things like that. Maybe masks that you could then incorporate into a game? If you mix that in with a few party games you should be able to structure at least some of it!

craft

Have 4 "sections" and 4 helpers.

In one decorate masks, in another do plate/mug/glass painting etc

rotate

the stuff they make is then the party bag too

Good idea, making things! Most 7 year olds like that.

We're having a bit of a dispute about the 12 on the list now . Most of them are their choice from school but a couple are neighbours and a friends child, who they don't want to come but who we always invite and vice versa. I know she would be incredibly hurt to be left out. How much input do you allow re invitations?

Difficult one sandy as they are making the choice but you have to deal with the fallout!! Could you bear to have a seperate smaller Tea -party at the weekend "just for old friends" & invite the locals & their mums then. Just say you can't have eveyone at once I'm sure they'll understand!

My DD's at that age loved (& still love)making their own mini-pizzas. Get aload of toasting muffins & brown them on the outsides, cut in half then have an assembly line of passatta/cheese/sweetcorn/pineaple/pepperami cut up bits they love doing their own & will eat loads. Toast them to melt the cheese & voila! I always do lots of salad nibbles to go with them. Just try & remember who's is who's when you put them on the grill pan to cook them!!
