I will be trning 40 at the begining of April. I really want to do something with a difference and have no idea what to do.
I want a party that I will remember and one my guests will talk about for a long while.
I am quite zany and mad. I love the outdoors (nothing too energetic though).
I live in London and so do most of my freinds.

I NEED HELP!!!!

All ideas welcome....

My parents had a fancy dress party at home for their 40th, it was one of the best parties I've ever been to! The theme was "famous couples".

my friend hired a local bar and had an 80s fancy dress party... it was a lot of fun, 5 of her male friends surprised her by dressing as the village people and bursting in , doing the YMCA.... fab ! and everyone was hysterical with laughter at the awful clothes, makeup and hair, it was great !

My 40th is in Feb but I've decided to relocate it to August (yep I think I'm old enough to be allowed to do that now!) and have a big garden party with bouncy castle inflatables, garden Jenga/Connect 4competition, hog roast, music etc, maybe fireworks. Maybe even a rounders match on the field at the end of the garden. I love the way people get stupidly competitive at these events and team Jenga on summers evening after a few glasses of wine could alomost become an Olympic event.

I've got three youngish kids, most of my friends have so It has got to be inclusive.

I just wanna dance at mine! I love dancing and so do all my mates. I'm just going through all my cd's now, pulling out all the classic dance tracks from the early 90's, trouble is I can't stop listening to the whole track and dancing! But hey, in the immortal words of Kevin Bacon in Footloose, There IS a time to dance!

FlorenceFarkingNightingale · 05/01/2008 11:22

Oh ll, your party sounds like fun - can I come?!

For dh's 40th we did an at home (garden) party with hog roast, garden jenga and quoits, music, etc etc, and we made it an all afternoon/evening thing, so that people with children could come during the day, and those without could stay late.

I turn 40 at the end of teh year and 4 other friends are 40 this year so we have decided to have a midsummer's eve party in June. Hog roast, live band and cheesy disco in Morocan tent in next door field.

I hired a hotel (cheap rooms so that everyone could stay the night); made it Fancy Dress as "Someone from the last 40 years" (I went as Madonna - even died my hair blonde); asked everyone to submit their Top 10 Songs and the DJ did a count-down of the Chart. It was brilliant - people still talk about it now. Oh and I hired a photographer to take loads of photos so that I would remember the night. My dh, mum and sis plastered the venue with poster photos of me from the last 40 years.

I've just read this thread - it's my birthday next week, and I'm having some friends round at home for a booze and a laugh. But now, this has made me think i can have a party in August too, with a bouncy castle for kids etc, and sit in my field! Fantastic idea! (hasn't helped me much though with ideas to liven up next weeks party at home though!)
