Are you celebrating NEW YEAR'S EVE?

We don't have anything planned. In fact, I hate it and find New Year's Eve one of the most depressing times of the year as nothing ever seems to be going on around us. Most of our friends have kids now and babysitters are hard to find on NYE. DH did talk earlier about maybe inviting friends over to us but I think people are put off by the difficulty in getting taxis and also the cost not only that children get tired and parents aren't able to relax.

It's a tricky one. We're going away and it will be just us. I think if you can get away from the everyone is at some five star affair fantasy, New Year's Eve can be fun. In the past we've had friends over and eaten Chinese and played board games and the kids have had a sleepover. I prefer it to any amount of over paying for restaurant food and having to book a taxi three days in advance.

We have nothing planned, it is hard when you have kids, i suppose our time will come when we can enjoy NYE again one day when the kids are old enough to take places.

I think we have spent the last 3 years watching the fireworks on tv in bed

we are travelling to my sisters where we are having the mother of all parties! Beats the last few years TBH cos in 2005 we were in hospital with DD who was poorly and last year we were all in bed by 10!

I find it's best to do something on new year's day .. something gentle and relaxing involving whole families, food, drink and maybe a family movie for when totally stuffed

don't like new year's eve .. always found it over-egged tbh

Cashncarry · 26/12/2007 23:01

No - DD (3 yrs) is having her tonsils and adenoids out and grommits put in

Sparkler · 26/12/2007 23:04

Cashncarry - poor little love. There's never a good time I guess. Hope all goes smoothly for you all. xx

We are having a party jointly with our neighbours across the hall (we live in married quarters) so about 20-30 people, a buffet, dancin' and general carousing. If my cold has gone by then!

Everyone is walking here, they are all bringing their (small) children and we are having a veritable creche upstairs. Last year we had 8 under 3s asleep up there - one in the bathroom!

Cashncarry · 26/12/2007 23:19

Thanks Sparkler - I know it's all routine, I'm just being a bit of a pathetic PFBer

All being well, we should be discharged by around 9pm they've said so plenty of time to come back here and have a moan

Maybe we should have a virtual NYE party on MN??

Just text a few of my mates to ask if they would like to call in for drinks and they are already booked up for parties etc. See, told you NYE is crap.

Aherm, it's actually pronounced "ShowOfHands' Birthday" I'll have you know.

OrmIrian · 27/12/2007 12:33

We don't really bother TBH. Not a big deal afaic. The last few years we've gone to friends with out DCs in tow so ended up coming home well before midnight.

I find New Year a bit dismal anyway - ending rather than a beginning.

BrieVinDeAlkaSeltzer · 27/12/2007 13:03

We have my best friend and her partner coming on NYE afternoon, they are bringing her DN and DNephew. We will go for a long walk (weather permitting) give the children early tea and a long bath.

Then DH will cook a rib of beef which has been hanging at the butchers for the last 10 weeks. Lots of wine, lots of chat, see the New Year in with little or no fuss and then bed by 1.00 at the latest.

cheapslutonjunk · 27/12/2007 13:05

No. It's a random tick of the clock that says "you're another year older, remember to put 08 on cheques" - shit weather, everywhere expensive. Will stay home with DH and have some nice grub and good wine/.
