errr, chicken nuggets and chips?
sandwhichs
kids ddont ever eat anythign at parties anyways, so dont bother doing loads, unless that is what you enjoy doing.

cheese cubes? pizza? sausages? carrots sticks and dips? various biscuits.

serinsingingcarols · 05/12/2007 23:15

Fruit dipped in chocolate.

Tommy · 05/12/2007 23:18

agree - keep it simple - sandwiches, etc. None of them will remember what they had to eat anyway

lenaschildminding · 05/12/2007 23:47

breadsticks, carrot sticks, celery, cucumber, houmous, lettuce, fruit...

That way, dd will be sooo embarrassed she won't want an expensive party next year!!!.

only joking!

I'd do the mini sausages, cheese, cheese & tomato pizza, crisps, a few cakes and bits.

Jelly Tot cakes and Smartie cakes are delicious!

stealthsquiggle · 05/12/2007 23:56

Sandwiches - keep them plain (i.e. just ham, just cheese)
mini pizzas (cheese & tom) or normal ones cut into lots of slices
crisps
mini sausages
token plate of cucumber sticks & cherry toms

crispie cakes (mars bar ones are best!)
biscuits
fairy cakes
grapes

Any reason why "buffet style" as opposed to "dump it all in the middle of the table and let them at it" style - or is it the same thing?

lenaschildminding · 06/12/2007 00:33

That's the same thing

It's called chimps tea party style in our house

Oooh great ideas. I'm holding a party for 26 on Sunday, ages ranging from 2 to 5.

Before seeing this I'd decided on:

Sandwiches (ham, cheese, vegemite, cream cheese)
Popcorn (homemade, no salt etc)
Fruit plate
Token veggies
Fairy Bread (Aussie thing, best not to ask)
Vegetable Crisps (Not the deep fried beetroot/parsnip type things but sort of quavery type ones made of veg. They're very nice and the kids won't suspect a thing)
Home made chocolate dipped strawberries (cos I'm a tightwad and don't want to buy them)
Home made jelly (apple juice/gelatine/fruit salad)
Birthday cake

Added to that I think I'll now do:

Grated Cheese (don't want to choke the littlies)
Home made pizza cut into little circles

For the parents I'm doing a sausage sizzle, so 30 odd sausages and a few baguettes, with salad that keen mums can also force down their 2yos. Anything they don't eat can be frozen.

lenaschildminding · 08/12/2007 14:03

sounds fab, can i come

crunchie · 08/12/2007 14:06

Arfy you know we HAVE to ask - what is Fairy Bread??

crunchie · 08/12/2007 14:07

Ah just done a search

E - numbers of white bread MMMM MN heaven

arfishy · 10/12/2007 06:53

Yes, fairy bread is white bread, smothered with margarine and sprinkled with hundreds and thousands.

[shudder]

I would be lynched if I didn't provide it at an Australian birthday party. It's tradition.

I did manage to get some all natural hundreds and thousands, with no artificial anything and some white looking brown bread. Wouldn't use margarine anyway.

mummcgoo · 22/12/2007 02:44

arfishy, I didn't realize that it is only us aussies who eat fairy bread, I've never been to a party without it, or choccie crackles.
If you're excited then cut the Fairy bread with a biscuit cutter and make it into shapes like stare hearts etc.

OverRated · 22/12/2007 02:55

Fairy bread. How bizarre! Am strangley tempted though

twentypence · 22/12/2007 03:40

Ds is allergic to food colourings so he had reindeer poo bread at his kindy Christmas party. Now all the boys want that rather than fairy bread.

(reindeer poo does not contain reindeer (or poo) just chocolate sprinkles.
