£5 and it seemed everyone else at our nursery was of the same mind!

DynamiteDaisy · 08/11/2007 21:13

£5 seems the usual amount, but if you go to TKMaxx you can often get quite good bargains there.

Hulababy · 08/11/2007 21:13

£5-£10 depending on who they are and how much I know of them. Can be less too if I can find a bargain. The Book People are great - buy book sets and then split for cheap instant presents.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/11/2007 21:15

I used to spend £8-£10 at that age. Now (7-8) it's £10-£12.

imaginaryfriend · 08/11/2007 21:16

It depends. If they're a special friend at least £15, if they're a 'mentioned frequently' by dd friend £10 and if they're someone she barely knows £5-£10.

Wheelybug · 08/11/2007 21:16

Great - glad there is consensus. THis is what I was thinking - £5 ish but if you can buy something which makes it looks like you've spent more all the better .I agree the book people is fantastic !

Thanks everyone.

£5-£10 max.

Wheelybug · 08/11/2007 21:18

The situation I'm in is the 'accepting an invite when you have no idea who the child or mother is' - dd is at quite a big pre-school and I think this term some children are just inviting children of a similar age as they have not yet made real friends.

Thanks again !

I spend around £10 at the moment, but so far it's all been for children I know. For someone we didn't really know and DS rarely mentioned it would be less (although I'd think about not going in that case).

mintydixcharrington · 08/11/2007 21:26

tenner
friends - more like 12-15

mintydixcharrington · 08/11/2007 21:27

but we have quite small classes so it isn't too bad

mintydixcharrington · 08/11/2007 21:28

I was at Costco the other day and they had a pack of 10 Jez Alborough books (you know, "Duck in the Truck" and "Hug" guy) for 9.99
Gave three each to three children and kept one. superbargain (and I'd be delighted if people gave my kids quality books instead of more plastic tat)

ChasingSquirrels · 08/11/2007 21:31

the book people had that pack for £10 aswell, I got it a month or so ago and ds2 has had one, planning on using some for xmas presents.

perpetualworrier · 08/11/2007 21:51

I agree with most posters and aim for £5-£10, but what's worse spending too much or too little?

I'm always worried that I'll appear flash if I spend too much or tight if I don't.

My boys have been invited to several parties over the next few weeks. The Entertainer have 95 piece KNEX sets RRP £15, reduced to £7.50. Ideally placed in the price range, but does the original price make this too much? I'm thinking of making a bulk order!

ChasingSquirrels · 08/11/2007 21:57

got a link to the k'nex sets?

ChasingSquirrels · 08/11/2007 22:43

ok, found the k'nex. and here is a 7% off code if you are going to buy mvc7.

Skribble · 08/11/2007 22:44

£5 max less if I find a bargain.

perpetualworrier · 09/11/2007 20:49

Sorry for the delay - here's the link knex

I take it this means you think it's OK?
