Socailly responsible trick or treating...

Apologies if this has been done...

If I take DC out t-or-treating tonite, how do I do it in the most socially acceptable way? Other mums tell me they only knock on doors of decorated houses, for instance. Seems like most of DS classmates are going (we are in England).

Obvious no actual "trick" threateneed, as an American I can bearly dignify that possibility with comment . And keep DC from shouting or being out that late.

Was planning to dress DC up as chimney sweep, princess and fairy, some soot on DS face but no masks. Which would be 100% fine costumes in USA, but will I get disapproving looks if they aren't witches and goblins? DH is telling me only masks and hoodies will be accepted, and I'm not sure if he's not being serious.

Planning to stop after 10 houses, too, if I find that many.... It's a school night, ffs.

Decorated houses only, and I personally would be thrilled to see something other than witches or goblins. My DS will be Spiderman! Have fun ...

Try saying 'Happy Halloween' instead of trick or treat?
And yes, only knock on decorated houses, we arent doing anything for halloween until friday but DP is gvoing to do the pumpkins with the DC's later so we can put them out.

That sounds good, Lorayn. What are you doing Friday? To me you either do the celebs on 31 October or you don't do them at all, & knocking on doors a day early or late is very rude where I come from (okay, a few knockers a day early might be ok, but never late). I wonder if we really will find even 10 houses? We live in an isolated rural area so nobody comes knocking here -- will have to go up to town.

Oh we arent going trick or treating,w e are having a party for some of DD's school friends and parents. We only left it til fridy because some of the children have after school clubs on other days and by the time they all get dressed up and I get everything ready the party isnt going to start til 6, then getting home, out of their costumes, bathed to get rid of all the facepaint etc would be a bit late for 6/7 year olds!
