Is it ok to drop party bags in the current lockdown ?

Hello,
I am hosting an online birthday party for my 5 year old and I was wondering if it was ok to drop party bags at her friends houses in the current lockdown. We have around 20 children. Part of me is not comfortable in the current situation but I am wondering what other parents are doing? Am I being too cautious? Any suggestions?
Thank you

I wouldn’t. Kids won’t miss them. I’ve never come across a party bag that would make me risk sending them in a pandemic.

No. Don’t.

We did this back in May. but my DD is a bit older and we put stuff in like face mask and nail polish so it was stuff they were doing together over zoom. she only had five friends ..We dropped the bags off a few days early so they could isolate them.

We're doing an online party this weekend too. We aren't bothering with party bags. Cases are very high here and I just don't think they are necessary.

TroysMammy · 09/01/2021 09:30

Unfortunately in these times it would be classed as non essential.

Laissonslesjoliesfemmes · 09/01/2021 09:31

If you're stopped then would you feel confident justifying why those journeys are essential? That's the test I'm applying to myself at the moment when I try to work out what I should do as well as what I'm technically allowed to do.

I’d do it a few days before (warn parents) so those concerned could quarantine them if they wanted. But appreciate that won’t be easy for cake- individual cupcakes to be eaten together during the party?

RoganJosh · 09/01/2021 09:34

Can you do it on foot or by bike? The travel side is an issue otherwise.

I would be fine with receiving one, just like I am with post. You can quarantine them for a couple of days and use gloves to drop off. And tell the parents you’re doing so.

Totally unnecessary.

Thank you everyone, appreciate all the responses. Have decided to skip them this year xx

On the plus side perhaps now party bags can fade into the sunset as I've read on MN in the past they are a bone of contention. The up coming generation of children will not have a clue about them and they can easily be stopped. Be strong, don't introduce them when/if things are back to normal Grin

Interesting idea, something to think about. As a child though I looked forward to the party bag at bday parties.

My generation had a piece of birthday cake to take home and maybe a balloon if we were lucky.

ThePricklySheep · 09/01/2021 17:21

@TroysMammy

My generation had a piece of birthday cake to take home and maybe a balloon if we were lucky.
And we walked ten miles to school, barefoot, in the snow. Grin

Things change though. Your generation also got a party. Face to face.

TroysMammy · 09/01/2021 18:00

ThePricklySheep hardly, birthdays in January are shit Grin and even more so when your younger sister has a birthday 10 days after yours. I can honestly only remember one birthday party (shared) in our parlour. No such thing as soft play and pool parties back in the day.

We didn't walk barefoot in the snow and school was in the same village. We did stay in school in our coats when the heating packed in though.

I’m planning on online party for my daughter
Only 6

I’m arranging for party paraphernalia to be delivered to each child in advance of the party. Direct from Amazon.

@TroysMammy

My generation had a piece of birthday cake to take home and maybe a balloon if we were lucky.
And what generation would that be?!

I’m early forties and I too don’t recall any birthday party bags

But I don’t talk like I’m from the early 1900s
Don’t for goodness sakes talk to Troy like this!

Raaaaaaarr · 09/01/2021 18:06

No this is pointless really and spreads covid.

TroysMammy · 09/01/2021 18:06

I'll be 53 in a week. Troy was my cat who died.

Sethy38 · 09/01/2021 18:08

Ok so 53, 10 years older than me.
Neither of us had birthday party bags like they do now

But I’m going to say that to my children because.... time passes and things change, whether for good or bad
