My DD is asking for a Birthday party, What are people’s views - are people hosting birthday parties for their children in September/ October or have you decided to skip hosting one for the moment?

Meant to be having a huge 21st for my child soon. Unlikely it will be happening as we are in a lockdown area.

Awh that’s disappointing - we are not in a lockdown area and unlikely to be in one. Difficult to know what to do

You can only have one other household over at a time indoors but if the weather is holding you can have 6 people outdoors as it stands - so she could have 4 friends if they are outdoors :)
The rules haven’t changed in ages but I’m not sure they’re going to relax any time soon given cases are rising.

We've been invited to a couple of outdoor parties such as a horse riding one with only a couple of other children and also something at a country park with a picnic lunch in the cafe afterwards. Might be a good compromise. X

Ds is turning 10 in October. We've agreed best mate over for movie and sleepover, as that's within the rules. I agree, I can't see them changing this side of half term, they need to assess the impact of schools going back.

I've lost the plot on what's allowed. Outside in a public place it seems anything goes! Lots of gazebos and bbqs for birthdays by the lake this weekend. Outside the lockdown zones isn't it 30 outside?

Ohfrigginghellers · 31/08/2020 08:58

My childs birthday is in December. It's going to be cold outside then. Not sure what we will do.

Places that do parties, like trampoline and party companies are hosting parties for up to 12 plus party kid.

Cocoruby · 31/08/2020 21:03

Thank you for your responses - I am so lost on all the Government guidance and what is the responsible thing to do - having looked at some venues I can hold a party at a party company for 15/ 20 children yet that somehow seems a bit contradictory to the guidelines 🤦‍♀️

Maybe you'll be able to have an outdoor party? My friend's DD turns 17 in November and while there is still plenty of time, her mother thinks it she and her friends can stay at their place and have some pizza and movies night.

I have a similar dilemma.

I’ve decided no big party as it seems irresponsible at a time when the cases are rising again, and I don’t want to contribute to that. Instead we will have one friend oveR and do party games and a meal out/order in.

Places like soft play are already open in most areas. If they can open, I can’t see why parties can’t take place. Or am I being thick?
