Would it be really odd to have no food at a birthday party? (Just cake and drinks)

Have hired a hall for DS2's 8th party. Also booking circus skills entertainment.
Would it be really wrong to not provide party food? And do i need to mention it on the invite?
I cannot afford to do party food as well as everything else. I will do drinks and birthday cakes. oh and of course the dreaded party bags

lorna- I couldn't ask them to bring pack lunches! Yes i think they will be to busy to eat.

TBH i hate it when DC have parties around 2-4 because its too late for lunch and too early for tea but so many do seem to go for that time.

Let us know how the party goes, is it soon?

14th October (assuming entertainer is free that day!) Really must get hold of her tomorrow!

I will try and remember to post about it afterwards but we are off on holiday on the Monday.(Used The Sun tokens!)

Haven site in Weymouth. Can't wait to get away. Shame the dates we got given are the week before half term. School were ok about it luckily.

It will be smashing. If the entertainer is booked up I am free that day (however my travel expenses would be fairly hefty )

get cheap party bags, pens from pound shop crisp from pound shop, peanuts from pound shop, mini pizzas and voluvunts from iceland, maybe 3 for £5, some olives, some strawberries, and make your own sandwiches or bnot with all the food above and your away for less than £10 it doesnt have to be pricey! my ds bday is in a few weeks and i have to pay for their lunches! may have to ask the venue to do a similar platter with less for the parents that stay, wish i could bring my own! good luck! whens the big day mines 6th oct!
