Food for a 2-4pm Child’s Party

Being a complete novice at children’s parties I thought I would turn to the wise people on here for some advice 😊.

I am hosting a party for my son’s 2nd birthday party which is at 2-4pm. I thought on giving the kids a lunchbox filled with a small sandwich, Pom bear crisps, animal biscuits, a piece of fruit and a fruit shoot. Does this sound ok? I thought as the party is 2-4pm they will just need a snack rather than full on party food. They’ve had their lunch before the party and will likely be having their dinner after the party. Or will people expect their kids to fill up on party food and not want any dinner? Also what to provide for the adults? Would bowls of crisps and some biscuits be ok? Plus there will obviously be cake too.

It will be mostly 2 year olds with a couple of 4/5 year olds and an 8 year old that will be there.

Thanks in advance 😊

That sounds perfect. We tend to do a big cake and offer it round to parents. You don't need to do any more than that, especially with a 2-4pm party.

You can just buy a different cake - they don't need to match - or if home baking we have made up an extra cake with the same icing, but no fancy decs, and just handed that out ready sliced.

Or just do biscuits as you suggest. Maybe posher ones

Thanks Holly! 😊

Yes might get another cake for the adults and some posh biscuits too. Will just buy the cake as I’ve not baked a cake in ages (and don’t want to poison anyone) plus it saves time Grin

Sounds exactly like a party I recently went to with my 2 year old and it worked perfectly; adults were also offered birthday cake which was nice.
They provided tea and coffee with lidded take away cups which was a nice touch as it kept everyone safe.

I think that sounds lovely OP. At that time of day whilst food may not be required as such, it's a party so a small second lunch will be nice. Plus it would feel odd to not bother at all! If I was an adult wit( my child a few crisps, bit of cake and a good cup of coffee would make me very happy Grin

Hope you and little one have a lovely time!

Unless you can create a master piece and genuinely love baking I've come to the opinion life's too short to not get a shop one! Get a huge tray bake from Asda and you can a,ways stick extra decorations on top. Years ago when DD was into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we did this and found some rice paper cake toppers. They went down a storm!
