Soft play party advice please...!

DS will have his 5th birthday soon and we have decided to have his party at a local soft play. I’m doing the invites now - how long should I subject myself to the inevitable chaos? Is 2 and a half hours crazy? It’s quite a big place and they will get lunch and cake, but there isn’t a party room or organised games etc to fill up the time. Also, it’s a mixed language group and some of the kids won’t speak English at all (I also can’t speak their language). Last years effort was such a disaster - I really want this to go smoothly...! Any tips or recommendations welcome! Thanks.

A 5th birthday, so some of them will still only be 4. Yes 2.5 hours is way too long.
1 hour playing 30 mins eating, all done.
1hour 45 mins tops, anything longer will be too much for them, and you

2 hours is normal here

NotGenerationAlpha · 11/01/2020 22:28

Standard booking for a softplay party is 2 hours here. But I agree that if you can book just 1.5 hours, that’s enough for 4/5 year olds.

Thanks for your response. I’m glad I binned my first batch of invitations then - I was originally going to to 3.5 hours Shock

1hr arrive and soft play, 30mins food and cake, few mins extra play whilst you gather the party bags! I’d recommend squash breaks every 30mins!

biguglytears · 11/01/2020 22:34

The thought of 3.5 hours made me shudder! 😄

Sounds like two max will be plenty. That gives loads of time to play, have cake etc

hippyfuckinghooray · 11/01/2020 22:51

No parent ever wants to stay at a party longer than two hours 😂

Clangus00 · 11/01/2020 22:54

Does the centre organise the party? They usually have a 2 hour time limit anyway.

RomaineCalm · 11/01/2020 22:56

1.5 hours is fine at that age. An hour of soft play and then 30mins for drinks, cake, party bags and goodbyes.

I always vastly overestimated how long the food would take at DC's party. If they stay at the table for 15mins it's a result. Just takes one to get up and you've lost the lot!

darkfever · 11/01/2020 22:58

Most of the soft plays round here have a standard booking time of 2 hours.

NinjaBiscuit · 11/01/2020 23:41

Thanks all. I’ll say 2 hours then. There isn’t a standard booking time here - I asked. The party will start at 1100 and they said we could stay until they close at 1900!!! We won’t be doing that...

Think carefully about where coats, bags, jumpers, shoes etc. are going to go. Lay them neatly if possible.
Always total chaos at these places, trying to reunite kids with their stuff so you can leave. Don't make the experience one minute longer than necessary.
