DS will be 8 in 2 weeks and I still haven't organised his party simply because I haven't got a clue what to do. They've all done the soft play stuff to death (plus I hate it), we've done pizza & play, bouncy castle stuff, farm etc but am seriously stuck this year. I don't really want to have it at home because tbh quite a few of his friends are quite destructive - girls are so much better to cater for!!! Please help

Whereabouts are you?

Cinema? ooh, Twiglett's said that already. What about taking them to a football match? Or a football party in the park? If you've got a dh/dp/friend/you who likes playing. You could do oranges for half time, football invites etc. I thnk we're taking ds to a football match with friends and then on to Pizza Express for his 7th this year.

Jampot - last year I loathed most of the parties my ds1 went to (and that was just dropping him off and picking him up) - boys this age seem to get so rowdy. But we actually enjoyed his party:

He has 4 good friends, and rarely socialises beyond this circle. We took them for a meal first at Pizza Hut (and warned them we wouldn't be buying popcorn and coke at the cinema - so to eat well ), then we went to the cinema to see a film. They all had a great time, and seem to be closer friends for it.

Once when we went camping there was a small group of boys aged about 10, and they had gone fishing for the day for a party, and then the dad was showing them how to gut the fish then barbecue it! They all seemed to be having the time of their lives.

Next year - depending on what friendship groupings he has - we will either take one friend out for the day to a theme park or similar. Or a small group of friends to some sort of outwardbound experience.

I guess it depends on the group of children concerned, but I took ds1 to a swimming party last year and stayed to observe ... 20+ 7-8 yr old boys quite late in the evening. They all went completely bezerk in the pool - really wild. It was horrible

are they too young for paintballing?
