angryfish · 07/09/2004 21:47

yes champagne - you wont get to enjoy it for another 10 years!

joanneg · 07/09/2004 21:51

ahhh happy birthday minibecca! Love the name Harvey btw. For ds 1st birthday I really thought about what he liked to do/eat and so on and made that the focus of the party. For instance if it is Fimbles he likes get loads of fimbles stuff. Have a nice time! If the weather is nice perhaps drag everone out to the park fo rball games, swings and so on

ohh - just read angryfishes response!! thats a good party!!

Beccarollover · 07/09/2004 21:53

Im thinking along the lines of angryfish but going to do something for the kids

DD wants us to get a pinata but I cant work out where to hang them?

What is very popular is strawberries dipped in chocolate...v popular with the adults! I made a few sandwiches - eg avocado and cream cheese, ham and cream cheese, tuna and mayo, and they went down a treat. Bits of fruit cut up - I managed to hire some little tables and chairs - it was so cute - they all sat down and just munched through all the food..! Also, babybel cheese is good.. I also had wine for the adults which they were very impressed by!!

angryfish · 07/09/2004 21:54

from tree

Beccarollover · 07/09/2004 21:56

ahhhhhhhhh so its an outside thing? I have no trees at the back....doh but I do at the front - fab I will do that then

I have moved on from strawberries dipped in chocolate - did cherries dipped in white chocolate at a party last week and they were gorge - they are on the list for adults

might do a big bowl of punch and get pissed and just put cat in the hat on for the kids and order pizza! not that the birthday boy will enjoy any of that

OP posts:
angryfish · 07/09/2004 21:57

yes do it from 4pm till when evr
do suasage and chips for th e kids

unicorn · 07/09/2004 21:57

whatever you do don't go O.T.T.. Harvey won't remember any of it.. and you'll have spent a fortune..!!
All you need to do is ensure that you have the compulsory photo of beautiful baby covered in chocolate cake! Otherwise Harvey will bring it up in therapy years later... 'my parents never loved me.. they never even had a party for my first birthday'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sensible advice... don't stress... enjoy... and remember... it's YOUR celebration too.. I mean who brought the little angel into the world a year ago!!! Get the bubbly down yer neck!!!!

Beccarollover · 07/09/2004 21:57

Im doing it from 2 so DS has napped and is all refreshed for his guests

lolliepops · 08/09/2004 13:07

i realy think you need to buy all of your guest who are coming a realy expensive pressie and ply them with drink and a baby sitter for the night but then i would say that as me and dd are coming!!

PandaBear · 08/09/2004 13:22

For our DDs 1st we filled a paddling pool with balls to make a makeshift ballpit. Dumped the kids in there. They loved it, and the adults could happily drink wine and eat nibbles knowing that there little ones were safe and happy.

scotlou · 08/09/2004 13:41

For our DSs 1st we provided sandwiches etc but also ice cream and jelly which he'd never had before. I can still remember him trying to eat ice cream with his fingers. He also loved squishing the birthday cake into the carpet.
For DDs though, we had no party (2nd child again..)She did get a birthday cake but even her pressies were few and cheap as by that time we knew that they really prefer the paper and boxes anyway.

princesspeahead · 08/09/2004 13:45

happy birthday harvey! miles is 1 today... ahhh. party on sunday - mini sausages (drizzled in maple syrup before cooking) and ham or marmite sandwiches for the children, smoked salmon sandwiches, wine and tea for the adults. and cake for everyone!
don't need much else really...

got him a sandpit and a spade for his birthday and he loves it. life is so simple for 1 year olds, isn't it?

Beccarollover · 08/09/2004 13:49

One thing we've done for the past two years is provide a 'quiet room' for the parents. Inevitably a baby needs to eat or nap (especially if there are younger ones at the party) and it was really appreciated that we had somewhere set up for them. I just pulled down the black out blind in DS's room, put the lamp on, set up a travel cot with sheets (DS has a regular bed now) and put batteries in the baby monitor so parents could carry it around and enjoy the party while their little one slept.

I also set up a changing area in another room with wipes, mats, etc.

Becca, don't know how old your DS is but we got a 'pull pinata' for DS's second birthday. It works by each child taking turns choosing a ribbon that hangs off the bottom and pulling it. One of them releases the treats. It was much easier for the little ones than the traditional pinata that they hit with a stick and it was small enough that I could just carry it around by its handle and give each child a go. I got mine from www.partypieces.com it's a great website for kid's parties.

For ds 1st I bought a choc fairy cake and stuck candle on top. Now feeling inadequate. For 2nd a bit better, but nothing organised, just people turning up for picnic and messing around with footballs/plastic golf set. High spot was ds and best friend discovering 'snake' (worm).
As Unicorn says, they don't remember, maybe I should photoshop in some pinatas and stuffn We did have a really great time on both occasions tho. Happy birthday Harvey!

tex111 · 08/09/2004 13:52

popsycal · 08/09/2004 19:41
