I fancy throwing a 'village fete' in my garden

But beyond a coconut shy and hoopla, what else can I get people doing? There's not a huge amount of space.

I did think that I cold get kids decorating fairy cakes in the cake stand and then auctioning them for charity when the grownups got p*ssed.

Any ideas?

What about lolly stick game (lolly sticks upside-down in sand some with stars on - if you pull out one with star on you get a small prize).

Hook a duck in paddling pool?

Name the doll/teddy?

sweeties in a jar
guess teh weight of the cake

See, I knew there would be loads of clever people out there! Thanks so much!

Get DH to sit and have wet sponges thrown at him while kids pay to do so

Treasure hunt (straws on a board covered in sand)

White elephant stall.

Bottle tombola

Hot dogs on a barbecue

no suggestions cos my brain is asleep - but we have this every year.

well.. actually it's the church fete cos we're the vicarage, but it's quite cool to have a fete in your own garden!!

and yup - wet sponges go down well. my dh seemd to love having then thrown at him [hmmm] he wouldn't go and change just in case someone else wanted to throw one

teddy bear tombola is pretty good - the kids love it.

make a mini garden (little seed trays, or even the plastic trays meat comes in etc, soil, pebbles, little flowers..) then judge them...

have you got a rotary line? Cover it with bin liners then attach ribbons for a maypole dance.

A lucky dip with one turn for each child (can be at leaving time instead of the dreaded party bags.)

I went to a party like this when I was small and loved it - we had tokens to 'spend' I recall on whichever game we fancied, though that might lead to whining when they spend it all on one thing and then want more for another.

Throw soft balls into a bucket - not too many props required but again that volunteer to man it.

A stack of matchboxes containing either a penny or a 10p and perhaps one wonderful gold £1 coin (treasure!) - not so safe if the children are very tiny though and come to think of it, where would you get the matchboxes OK, buried in a sandtray maybe - I love creating the illusion of buried treasure!

If you have a big dice and a willing volunteer, you can knock up a race track for cuddly toys, take turns to throw dice, move toy up the board, small prize for the winner.

It sounds a really magical idea for a party and I love your fairy cake-stall idea!

Oooh, getting very excited now! DH should be up for getting sponges chucked at him!

Now if you could all please pray for good weather (esp you alittlebitshy, cos you probably have a hotline) on the 28th, I would be eternally grateful.

We did this when we were kids .

What about cover a pound with a 10p, you put a pound coin in a bucket of water, participents drop 10p in bucket and win the pound if they cover the pound totaly, collect all the 10ps that don't win.

Treasure tray, hide a treasure in a tray of soil, turf, sand or similar, 10p a flag 50p for 6 and closet flag to the treasure wins prize.

Supplies

Obviously if it is just for fun don't charge, we did it to raise money for some local charity and invited the whole street.

Wow, thanks for the link, Skribble!

You must have a Cake Competition
