Tuxedos? Matching flower girls?

I am having a stress on about my wedding.

getting married in a cave (not like deep underground, very romantic, no hard hats involved), having a party in the gardens of a beautiful cottage in Cornwall, marquee, BBQ, guitars playing, barrells of beer, sort of unconventional wedding (as you would guess being in a cave!)

Plan was, suits for the guys, smart casual for everyone else, not expecting ladies to wear hats, expecting people to bring comfy shoes!

Flower girls, I was going to let the parents just get something nice, they are flower girls mainly to give them something to do, getting basket of flowers to hand out to guests that kind of thing. One adult Bridesmaid wearing a stunning dress from monsoon reduced from £145 to £40.

Anyway, had MIL on phone stressing about it all. She wants all the men (ie family members, best man) in tuxedos, and all the flower girls to wear matching dresses. I held my head in despair, however, as I was doing so the image of the men in tux's and matching flwoer girls running around my feet came into my head, and it did look good (esp the men bit!)

So, Tuxedos, or whatever the guys feels comfortable wearing? Matching dresses or pretty dresses of the parents choice?

Dogsby - thank you...I almost got sucked in there! Thats the response I wanted

Can I say, for fear of being considered a cheap ass - I was looking at the great dresses in Sainsbury's, they do them in ivory, pale pink, or ivory and coffee...£15.00 each.

And of course a wonderful monsoon outfit for my own DD, she does not have to match either!

And of course I am waiting for more responses to the contrary... to help persuade me otherwise...

you can do tuxedos if you want - most men look ok in black tie. Don't make them wear matching waistcoats, bow ties etc though.

you could ask flower girls to wear white dresses but wouldn't bother with anything more specific.

Mrs - My DP actually wantrs to wear Southern Gent type of thing.. like the bloke from The Killers - he is wearing cowboy boots no matter what...its his american side coming through...
To be honest, Mostly I do not care what they wear as long as he turns up! But, every now and then I get pulled into the wistful childish fantsy of a white glam wedding. I even cought myself looking at the most enormous merangue dress the other day wondering if I made a mistake in the dress I got!!

waistcoats def not essential with black tie

I like the white with green sashes
wrist corsages are good as you can't brain your brother over the head with them

Dogsby · 03/06/2007 22:08

yes id bin the basket
s they weill use them as weapons

MrsBadger · 03/06/2007 22:10

also tip the petals into the registar's shoes, chew the handles etc

PavlovtheCat · 03/06/2007 22:10

Mrs - phew I got very worried for a moment there .

I like the gree too, it will go with the rest of the decorations theme. I am having candles and ivy across the front stage whre we take our vows, and hand picked flowers on each of the aisle seats, not decided what depends on what we are able to pick nearer the time.
