We're doing a really very expensive circus work shop for DD and the girl next doors birthday party, it's costing nearly £500 all in.
I've bought clown wigs, they get a red nose from the entertainer and I'm doing face painting too.
I therefore felt that a few sweets in a party bag would be more than sufficent, what do you think ?

I wasn't even going to do a cake tbh as I want her to have one on her actual Birthday with the family instead.

I would do a cake, even if it's a quick shop bought one, it's part of the ritual. Party bag sounds fine.

I think the clown stuff sounds fine in lieu of party bag.

Agree with dances about the cake tho. In my house you get one on yr b/day and yr party too. But then Dances and I are mad bakers, are we not?

I wouldn't bother with the sweets if they're gettin the wig and the nose, but I would do a cake. Buy one and chuck some cake glitter on it - I don't think you can have a party without a cake and candles!

You don't need party bags. You can take a picture of all the children and they can get that later on.

NO CAKE, I have said this to my sister as well, no cake, no party Now I don't now if this is because I LOVE to make novelty cakes myself, but I do believe that if you have 1 party you get 1 cake, and if you have 4 parties then you get 4 cakes . To me it has always been as important as the presents.

Dd went to a party recently and they all came out with just a piece of cake wrapped in a napkin. Not a party bag in sight and it was sooooooooo refreshing. Also nice to see that the children didn't bat an eyelid about it either. They all had a fab time, so I think to abandon the party bag idea is a good thing.

I'd definitely still have a cake though. The person who was hosting this particular party had a cake, but the children all went home with a piece of marble cake pre-wrapped to hand out, thus keeping fancy decorated cake with candles in for actual birthday.

Juggling balls. Could cosy you a small fortune in rice though.
