2 YEAR OLD BOY WHAT TO WEAR TO A WEDDING?!

Hi there,
Just having a bit of a panic. Have got my SIL's wedding in June in Scotland. Dh can't come as he is in Falklands so it is ds and me.
I would love to put him him a kilt, shirt etc but don't know if this is pushing my luck when he is only 2? I want him to be happy and comfy and not feel like a prize turkey but I also want him to look smart.
Any ideas, suggestions? Have been looking at kilts but very expensive. Would consider hiring but again is this asking for trouble?
Thanks

Personally I would not put a 2 year in a kilt. What about some smart trosers and a tartan waistcoat?

cheekymonk · 13/04/2007 18:46

Yes that sounds nice too. I would hate ds to look silly as I think it can if you put a small child in adult things. I just want him to look 2 not 2 trying to be 10 IYKWIM

he will run around and roll about it any grass and/or definitely on the floor so I would go for comfy and not too expensive

whatever he wants

When I took DS1 to a wedding aged 2 we couldn't get a kilt to fit him - well that's a lie we could have got him one of those girls ones with the vest bit attached, but didn't want to. We got tartan trousers for him, and a white shirt, with a tartan bow tie. if I remember we got the tartan trousers in somewhere like EWM, or Pitlochry shops, and the bow tie was from a shop in Elgin.
If you decide against tartan trews, then BHS has lovely trousers and shirts, we kitted out both DS for a wedding, trouser, shirts and tie, very smart

Tartan trews at the most I reckon.....

Have a look at vertbaudet they have some nice clothes for little ones that are smarter - just in one section of their catalogue - sorry can't remember the name of the range.

Thanks everyone. I don't find being practical comes naturally to me!!!

here
They actually advertise small kilts there as well, so they may do them in smaller sizes now.

Coolmama · 13/04/2007 18:50

I would also skip the kilt - rather go with a pair of smart trousers and a nice shirt will be much better - I have to admit that when I see kids dressed up like that I generally think "poor kid, what was your mother thinking??"!

cece · 13/04/2007 18:50

on the left hand menu look for occasionwear.

saltire · 13/04/2007 18:50

Also, if you do go for tartan trews, get a plain black or navy waistcoat, instead of a matching tartan one - tartan overload otherwise!

cheekymonk · 13/04/2007 18:50

You are all so helpful and resourceful, thank you! Tbh I think I might need some valium to get through the day itself but will try and rise to the challenge!!!

at the price

oxocube · 13/04/2007 19:20

the last wedding we went to , ds2 was almost 4 and I dressed him in a pair of below the knee shorts, sandals and a nice new tee-shirt! It was summer, about 80 degs and the celebrations lasted most of the day. He felt good, looked gorgeous and was comfortable

saltire · 13/04/2007 19:20

It's a shocking price, but if you look, you will see the price is in US dollars as well, so I think it's aimed more at that market

ja9 · 13/04/2007 19:25

my2yo ds at wedding

tassis · 13/04/2007 19:26

I think the cutest thing is a 2 year old in a kilt and then the open necked shirt tied with leather, or just with a white polo shirt

ds has done this to weddings aged 2, 3 and will do same this summer aged 4

check out scotlandshopdirect, they call it a ghilie shirt...there is a cheaper website that I could get the name of for you if you like. we borrow kilt stuff from a friend (who conveniently had to buy kilts for her 2 boys when they were 2 and 4) and i'm sure the kilts were around £15

ds has done kilt socks (borrowed) with brown leather sandals

so kind of an informal look but seriously cute (i'm not massively into such wee ones in jackets and ties)

tassis · 13/04/2007 19:26

Spooky ja9!
