Are sparklers a bit of a crap party 'bag' idea?!

DS is having a bonfire birthday party for lots of children aged 4-11. I am desperately trying to think of something that will work for most ages instead of a party bag full of tat! I was wondering about a pack of sparklers each with a nice tag, and a piece of cake but not sure if that is a bit boring?

Any alternative ideas gratefully received!

^^Because we'll already be having glowsticks at the party.

Fair enough if the sparkler idea is a bit boring (which is why I asked), but in terms of the 'danger' aspect, I would essentially be buying sparklers for the families to use at home the next evening. No one would be having them unsupervised, no I would not be providing matches(!) and there really isn't any more risk that the parents buying sparklers for their own kids.

It baffles me that you think that we think that sparklers are boring. And that you've put danger in speech marks like you diner think they are.

Seriously, OP. Don't hand sparklers to children. The downside is too serious. If you're desperate to hand them out, hand them only to parents.

But be aware that many people don't use sparklers at all - I don't, after seeing a child set their hair alight with one - so they'll just have the hassle of disposing of them safely.

Don't, not diner.

A lot of toffee apples are vegan (check no milk or carmine/carminic acid/e120
Skittles
Love hearts
Parma violets
Mini party rings
Moo-free chocolate bars
Honeycomb/cinder toffee (obvs with golden syrup not honey!)
Small bags of popcorn could be a good shout?

Please dont give kids fireworks/sparklers! Glow sticks are plenty fun enough ;)

I am also a very relaxed parent but have never let my kids have sparklers, no way, so for me that would be a party bag gift that went in the bin, sorry OP. Just way too dangerous.

Cinder toffee could be vegan and gluten free? The sugar free family (why?) will have to miss that.
How about some of those scratchy cards to make a firework picture?

Just get the tat. Kids like tat. Yes, it will make a very small contribution to the worsening of the environment, but on the bright side, no one will eat anything they shouldn't and no one will get burned.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 20/10/2017 00:45

sorry I don't see why having glow sticks at the party means they can't have them in the bag.

I have an acquaintance whose job is to report on accidents at sea. He says that pretty much every accident is down to a combination of:
*Lack of supervision
*Lack of training
*Lack of equipment.
Same is true here.
If you let your over-excited three-year-old hold a sparkler, or let a bunch of eight-year-olds light them on their own, you're likely to have an accident.
Ditto if you don't bother to give your kids the proper training - always wear gloves, hold them at the far end, keep away from hair and eyes, keep away from other people and flammable stuff, hold tight, dispose of in a bucket of cold water.
Ditto if you don't make sure your kid has gloves and bucket of water handy.
If you do all three, the chances of an accident are very low.
And if you simply refuse to let your kid have sparklers and don't bother to teach them how to use them properly, the chances of them using them for the first time as a drunk teenager and not having had all that stuff drummed into them every bonfire night since they were small are really very high.
Sparklers are dangerous, OP. But that's why you have to treat them with caution. It's not why you shouldn't have them at all.

Shock that photo potatoes.

I've never liked sparklers, even when I was a kid.
