Alternatives to party bags ...

Instead of party bags I made some little wall hangings for my dd's little girlfriends to take home for their bedrooms.
I made a butterfly, rabbit and heart.
It's not something you could do for a lot of guests, more for a small gathering, but do you think there is some mileage in perhaps trying to sell them as alternatives to the plastic tat you normally receive in party bags.
I'm not sure whether this is the right place to ask so I'll post in the parties section too.
I'd really appreciate some feedback and also what sort of price would people be prepared to pay, think they are worth.
Sizewise they are between 7"-10" each.
Have a look here

or a garland with hearts and butterflys would be another idea...to hang acroos the wall or window or door
lovely

I don't think it's a very good idea I'm afraid. Not all little girls are interested in hearts/butterflies/fluffy rabbits. I know several little girls who aren't at all like that. It smacks of gender stereotyping to me. And sometimes little boys get invited to little girls' parties too.

If you know all the little girls coming and their interests though, then great - and I do agree with you about the plastic tat in party bags. It's a scourge.

Dd went to a party where they were given at the end a butterfly biscuit with their name piped on it, in a decorative plastic bag which I thought was perfect. Lovely not to have loads of tat and sweets, and really special as well.

its a great idea for something different and they are really lovely but like Greeny says, not all girls are into butterflies and "pink" things and what about boys? I know my DS1 would be disappointed with that. He isn't into things to look at (other than books obv) he wants things that "do" IYSWIM.

Thanks for all the feedback ladies. I really appreciate all your comments.

  • I knew that the little girls I made them for would love them and those who I knew who wouldn't didn't get one and got a book instead.
  • Likewise, we had 3 boys come a long to the party and I gave them a nice book instead.

All the kids received a fun balloon, home-made decorated fairy cake nicely wrapped and a lollipop to take home too

I just had the idea that tailoring gifts for each child is a little bit different. You give what is suitable to each child so whereas something like this would appeal to some people, I appreciate it wouldn't to others.
I'm not into gender stereotyping at all, my dd has a train set and loves Lightening McQueen too !
I've got a few ideas for boys too, I paint small canvases and do collages for bedrooms and playrooms so I'm trying to cover all angles.

PS : The Rabbit wasn't fluffy, more vintage ...
