Following on from Radio 2 this afternoon, children are having DVD players put into party bags, I still stand by a balloon, something plastic, a piece of cake and lolly, what about you? how much is too much for a childs party bag?

I go for pencils, pens, stickers, notebooks. That kind of thing, Not balloons are plastic crappy things, you can get lovely little wooden bracelets and other things for under £1. No need for extra sweets and def not tooters or blowers, thats just cruel .

I've put pots of bubbles in party bags.
Yo Yo
notebook/pencil
mini gel pens
whistle
few sweets
stickers
skipping rope
frisbee

Not all of these in the same bag, and no dvd players either!!!!!

Ceolas - certainly have Although the gift bits came from an ebay shop. All the food boxes, etc have also come from party Pieces too. Used them last year and they were great.

Last year, party bag gifts were books from The Book People.

Giraffeski. Thank you so much. Have just been to Peppa Pig heaven.

So no mums are present, that gives their DD fashion shows as a party, with supermodels, and then take home the designer clothes that they have modelled with the supermodels?

jules99, no, got me wrong, was afraid of a bashing on MN, some people are really anti plastic, and rightly so. really not directed at you. Just don't want an arguement at 22.55. TBH I thought you had given gifts from this website, gifts for party bags, I didn't realise you searched for it. I totally agree, it sounds a lovely idea, I just don't know how it would work.

Oh and IMO yes it does matter what goes into a party bag. I really do think a DVD player is way over the top, would a child really appreciate this? then what pressure would the receiving child put on their parents. I just don't think these kind of expensive material things are appropriate for a "goodie bag"

1 fluffy chick (party day before Easter)
2 chocolate bunnies - three buttons-worth of chocolate each
1 or 2 balloons
1 party blower
1 make your own pompom pet kit in a little bag
1 piece of Thomas birthday cake, wrapped in the obligitory napkin.

It is a party. The bag is for the children, and the oldest child there will be 5. It is not an opportunity for people to show off to each other. I am quite militant about my approach to parties!

zippitippitoes · 15/03/2007 08:03

the dvd player is such a silly red hherring..people say things like that to senstationalise something which thousands of children do ever y week..most party bags are simply a couple of small things and a piece of cake and a sweet

most people are buying either a nice small toy for between 70p and 1.50 ime (a lot) or two or three items under 50p..eg mini cryons, jumping beans, wooden spinning tops and wooden whistles, stretchy smiley men, seed sticks are particualrly popular at the moment as is mini clay and pencils with novelty tops

it's all a puff to have something to promote yummy mummy books at the mo...

don't believe everything you har on the tv and radio when people ring i or send emails oir do surveys

my son's party is this weekend and the place we're having it is providing some basic party bags (i think with a beaker cup and a few bits and bobs) but i am adding a) small chocolate portion (smarties) and b) a red nose from the comic relief thing (£1 in Sainsburys!).

MrsGumby · 16/03/2007 14:06

Sorry to get all green on you all (yo, like me David Cameron homie) but how's about including a packet of seeds that could be grown in garden or window box? I remember being dead chuffed with them when I was a kiddy (but I know times have changed...kids these days would probably try and smoke them).
