I've been stupidly busy at work and have pretty much run out of time to get a christening present for Dh's best friend's son who is being christened on Sunday. APart from cufflinks and/or hip flask I'm a bit stuck for ides. Looking to spend up to £50. Dh now having to work tomorrow too, so it's all down to me. ANy suggestions gratefully received

Are you anywhere near a John Lewis? If so they have a small section for christening presents. I got my best friend's son a really cute silver teddy bear clock from there. Can't remember the price tho.

couple of wine glasses, you can add to the collection for further birthdays if you like.

Or, collection of classic books in hardback.

Or, children's Bible, Lion first Bible is lovely.

ANy access to an engravers'/trophys/locksmith type place? Because they sometimes do tankards, including mini tankards. I bought my DS a quarter-size tankard for his first Xmas and had it engraved... but then I am a morris dancer.

Hi hon - I'll give you a few of the ones bought for my boys: Royal Doulton (beatrix potter etc) specially made christening gifts, a silver birth certificate holder (both available from jewellers). Cuddly toys, money boxes, clothing etc. From my point of view my favourite was the one bought by my brother and his wife, a new building society account book where they had put some money in and started a savings account for them! I thought that was the most thoughtful, you could probably get a standing order form from the building society to put in with it for them to set up a s/o to pay in monthly. If you're not keen on that, then clothing was definitely my next favourite, no-one likes to buy something that's expensive for them to wear as they grow so quickly, but we'd all love to put them in posh clothes! Hope this helps, Alli x

I bought a book for my niece from Jonkers in Henley. They sell rare books, first editions that sort of thing. You would be able to get something really nice for 50 quid.
