dd's party is tomorrow. dh just came home with a helium canister, balloons and ribbon, but no weights. the party is in a church hall with massively high ceilings.....so you can see the problem!

are weights expensive? which high street shops sell them? any ideas how i could 'improvise' weights for them?

tia

TrinityRhino · 09/03/2007 21:14

I'm really trying here....

ThisTime · 09/03/2007 21:16

potatoes wrapped in foil

noonar · 09/03/2007 21:16

lol trinity! a balloon weighed down by...another balloon??

i thinka 2p coin taped to the ribbon could work.

I do this a lot and use cutlery - a fork or spoon will hold them down

not v. glamourous but it works!

noonar · 09/03/2007 21:18

MP, i guess i was thinking they'd take the weight home with them. wouldnt leave me with much cutlery

oh god, everyone had much better ideas than me

noonar, I thought that was a GOOD idea

oh well,at least I bumped it for you

mustrunmore · 09/03/2007 21:19

Just tie them to the chair backs.

ThisTime · 09/03/2007 21:19

Tie it to their party bags!

morningpaper · 09/03/2007 21:19

noonar you just slip the spoon out and tie it to their party bags

ThisTime · 09/03/2007 21:20

Just remembered not everyones likes party bags!

morningpaper · 09/03/2007 21:20

Tie it to their hair then

noonar · 09/03/2007 21:20

aah, so it is not necessary to provide a weight for them to take home then ?

sorry trinity, thought you were joking

OP posts:
TrinityRhino · 09/03/2007 21:22

well I thought you wanted lots of them, all the same, safe, easy to make and able to be taken home
I would say that a balloon with some flour in would do all those jobs

morningpaper · 09/03/2007 21:22

tie it to a worm

noonar · 09/03/2007 21:23

lol Thistime! am actually quite annoyed with dh for being so bloody generous and ignoring my party bag/going home gift boycott!

Actually you can tie it to a NORMAL balloon which you have blown up with non-helium air. Normally they will float a bit then, but not too high. You can use an electric paddling-pool pump to blow up the normal balloons in a fraction of the time.

noonar · 09/03/2007 21:24

easy, trinity??? how would one funnel flour into a balloon?

ps enjoy the worms.

Go to a card shop tomorrow and buy them for about 15p each!

noonar · 09/03/2007 21:25

MP think i will just tie them round their necks as they arrive. much simpler. and will keep the buggers quiet.

Maybe you could buy the bemybear to add to the party bags that are advertised at the top of this page!!!

Hope you have fun tomorrow - I vote for the potoato wrapped in tin foil, if they take them home thier parents can use it!

morningpaper · 09/03/2007 21:27

rofl @ getting flour into a balloon

are you some kind of management consultant?

noonar · 09/03/2007 21:27

now taht i realise the weights are not compulsory, dont think i'll be spending any MORE mnoey on our guests.
