Any ideas for a PIRATE PARTY?

Hi there,

I know this is really sad but its my DS's 1st birthday in August and I am planning the party. Its theme is pirates. We have: loads of balloons (pirate balloons and also black balloons with skulls and crossbones)

life size palm tree. Smaller palm tree. Several blow up parrots. The cake is a black skull and crossbones. I have eye patches etc and stuff like that...

I have one game to play - pin the treasure chest on the 'X' or something like that.

Now I am debating. Do I hire the village hall for £100 or have 40ish people at my house.

I know this is OTT for a 1st birthday but I cant help it I am so excited and I love throwing parties. Does anyone have any ideas for the party and also opinions on whether or not I should hire the hall? I am so not rich but I dont want all those people in my house.

Budge up a bit then

princesscc · 06/03/2007 20:24

No probably not, sorry I've got older ones! Just checked and it is a 12! Wicked film anyway and Jonny Dieppe is rather delious in it!

FrannyandZooey · 06/03/2007 20:25

I know who he is and I don't even have a tv

princesscc · 06/03/2007 20:25

I feel like a bit of a twit now! I obviously move in VERY different circles to you! The films are based on a ride at Disney - they're very good - honest!

SoupDragon · 06/03/2007 20:27

Johnny Dieppe ???

princesscc · 06/03/2007 20:27

FGS!!! SOMEONE DIG ME OUT OF THIS HOLE!!!

SoupDragon · 06/03/2007 20:29

DSs got the DVDs for Christmaas and they're 6 and 8... they loved them

Greensleeves · 06/03/2007 20:29

God, MN can be 'ard sometimes

SherlockLGJ · 06/03/2007 20:30

Yes

He was Johhny Depp, he changed his name after settling in France post Chocolat.

Looking like this, he could call himself Mickey Mouse, quite honestly, I would not care.

well I have to say I am still rather taken with my cake though I LOVE that pirate chest one thinking of doing that AS WELL as the skull & crossbones. Thanks Sherlock!

I'm off to collect my dd from Guides now, she'll understand - she'll be my friend! She loves Jonny Dieppe. So you can all talk about me for half an hour now! [princesscc sticks tongue out & huffs like a child!]

AitchTwoOh · 06/03/2007 20:35

for dessert, you could have a big blueberry jelly with a boat perched on it and liquorice shark fins or something.

we did a treasure hunt with a story around the house..as you said youve got older kids coming i assume..well..firstly there was a large map which id drawn and made to look old by burning the edges and they had to follow the footprints to various locations before reaching the chest[wicker basket with lid] filled with chocolate money..each room was a different part of the map and i led the hunt as captain somebody? one room was done all dark and had a pretend swamp with jelly snakes in that made them scream as i said in a piratey voice we had to get across the swamp without them getting you..the bunk beds were made up to look like a pirate ship with flags, sails etc and we all sailed on it to each part of the map..the landing/stairs area was a rickety bridge with an inflatable crocodile that had to be crossed..get the picture? it was great fun and 3 years later friends of my ds whose party it was ..still talk about it and ask to play pirates when they come to play..it was great fun especially with the older ones..we had pin the eye patch on the pirate etc.. then they all sat on da treasure island playmat from elc to have their tea out of pirate ship food boxes and we played island hopping where you have coloured islands of paper /card on the floor and when the music stops you have to find an empty island to land on..and of course like in musical chairs there is one less island each time....have fun

AitchTwoOh · 06/03/2007 20:41

i organise a sweetie treasure hunt to kick off my friend's wee girl's parties. it's very simple, you just get pack of snap cards (get piratey ones if you can) and then sort them into pairs. sellotape a sweetie to one of the cards and then hide somewhere not too tricky. then give the children the other card and send them off to find the matching one. it's a brillaint way to start a party as it gets everyone, even the shy kids, involved immediately.

Bozza · 06/03/2007 20:45

Pirates is a 12. My 6yo has not seen it. But he knows who Jack Sparrow is. I would say pirates and treasure is good quite an easy theme. A lot of it will be just adapting existing games.

eenybeeny · 06/03/2007 20:51

wow bambi you have loads of ideas! I love the musical islands one. Also AitchTwoOh I sooooooo want those snap cards I wonder where I could find some.

Mascara beard

Shower rings for earrings, nice and comfy.

Got a big chocolate cake and cut part of the top out to make it look like an open chest and filled it with chocolate coins and sweetie necklaces.

princesscc · 06/03/2007 21:17

OK, I'm back to redeem myself! Had you considered that Captain Hook was a pirate? So you could work on the Peter Pan, Lost Boys and Tinkerbelle theme. - That more suitable than my mate Jonny! DD suggested some sort of game with a hook, like hook the ducks or something.

eenybeeny · 07/03/2007 11:16

thanks princesscc for resurfacing. I think Johnny Depp is perfectly appropriate as well but I like the idea of Captain Hook!

Look on my profile at my Pirate cakes. Cuter and less scary than a scull and crossbones.

Love Greensleeves sandpit treasure game. Wish I'd done it for ds's 4th.

Hire the hall BTW.

princessmel · 07/03/2007 11:25

You can get a 'Pin the eyepatch on the pirate' game from partypieces.co.uk.

We had a treasure chest pinata from there too. The kids LOVE it. Its for older children really but you say most of them are going to be bigger. My dd (1)had a go with a little help from me.

cleaninglady · 07/03/2007 12:46
