Do you still do parties for 13 year olds?

My ds will be 13 in summer. We've always done proper parties, eg laserquest, swimming parties, theme parks etc.

At what age do you stop? Not saying i want to particularly, but I've noticed that this year there are fewer invites coming through.

Also, any ideas? I've been looking at paintballing but at £25 per child, is farking expensive. Would you think it'd be ok to have a waterfight in the garden, giving the kids the water pistols as party bags, iykwim, and a BBQ or would this been seen as stingy?

My sister has a child this age and instead of a party, she just invites a few friends along for pizza and a film at the cinema.

This is a question I wanted to ask too! DS1 is 10 this week and he is only having a small party this year mainly due to the sheer expense! I think next year it will be a day out with a friend. Your idea mumblechum sounds great, I can't really do that in march

what does she want for her birthday party. Maybe something like a bbq or something 'a little more grown up'. cinema and a pizza after??

RTKangaMummy · 06/03/2007 11:41

I think having those supersoaker things are deffo brill idea

and a BBQ

But my DS is 11 so not sure what age they finish

my nephews are older but they never really had a party so don't know really

or a sleep over, couple of dvds, MYO pizzas and a large tub of ice-cream???

mumblechum · 06/03/2007 11:44

Wow, the ideas are coming in thick & fast! The only thing about the cinema is that it doesn't seem v. sociable, and last time I tried to organise that, they'd all seen most of the films already. I think I'll keep that as an option, though, so if it's forecast to rain, plan B can be the cinema...

ice skating/roller skating party???

can she have a grown up party in the garden with some nice food/bbq and non-alcholic punch and a DJ???

kslatts · 06/03/2007 11:53

My dd is only 7 and has told me for her 8th birthday she doesn't want a party, but would rather take a couple of friends out for the day and have a takeaway when we get home.

When my best friend was 15 her Mum took her and I water skiing as a birthday treat and we had a fab time.

wurlywurly · 06/03/2007 11:56

i think i want one of these

mumblechum · 06/03/2007 11:59

Um, he's a boy!! Maybe when he's 14 he'd like a girls pamper party, with him as the chief pamperer!

Dd had a fabulous disco party for her 13th, with a DJ, non alcoholic cocktails etc. All of her year came - boys and girls - and it was one of her best parties, because they all felt rather grown-up.

Ds had a paintball party for his 14th, but he didn't want anything for his 15th last week (except PS3!!), so we just went out for an Indian.

I shall miss the parties - even the stress of getting them sorted.

Lilymaid · 06/03/2007 12:25

DS1 shared parties with a schoolfriend when 13/14/15 and did activities such as rock climbing/canoeing/paint ball. DS2 went to a test match with 3 friends for his 13th but since then has taken his friends to the cinema followed by a trip to a pizza joint (unaccompanied but dropped off and collected). His friends have taken him our for chinese meals - parents at separate table or have gone bowling/cinema. Last weekend he went to a 16th where they played poker and snooker.

mumblechum · 06/03/2007 12:35
