...and i know that loads of you do too. so why does everyone give them? would you judge your host if they didnt give one?? what could i do instead- any ideas?

dd will be 5 by the way, and i just cant bring myself to spend £1.50 a head on plastic shite and sugar in a bag.

oh, I thought we'd blow them up and do a bit of air guitar to a suitable CD track - the party is for dd2 who will be 5, but I might delegate organising this bit to dd1, who is 17

JackieNo · 26/01/2007 19:19

Sounds good - you'd need a lot of puff to blow them all up yourself.

Twiglett · 26/01/2007 19:22

that was my hint .. the guitars ..

they take remarkable little air to be honest .. about 3 big blows and they're up

I'm not blowing them up though

I have managed to horribly overspend this year on partybags

I hate them....DS went to a party on sat and ate his body weight in refined sugar on the way home (and that was with me opening all the packets and scoffing half the contents before handing them over...) I do like the party's over idea thou....
Mind you am seriously thinking of letting our local toy shop take the strain this year (the girl there runs kids parties and there is a great bar/cafe next door where all the adults can hang out)

noonar · 26/01/2007 19:31

blackduck, thought i was the only one who did that!

I just did dd's 4th birthday and ordered party bags from a great website. They got a tiger mask, tiger keyring and a chocolate frog. I bought a tray bake cake from tesco and cut it up put it in the bags so I didn't have to bother with with that during the party. I hate too much crap in party bags but I don't object to them totally. A friend of mine did ALL sweets in her dd's party bags which caused great rumblings among the mothers.
Lets face it you don't have to do party bags for that many years, when kids get to 7/8 it's time to do special days out and treats with best friends. Go with the flow, nobody is asking you to fill them with truffles and a nintendo ds lite in pink!

noonar · 26/01/2007 19:37

i know, lilliput, but we're still talking an extra £50 on the party budget. not sure i can justify it, tbh.

oops sorry Twiglett, didn't mean not to give you credit for the idea about the guitars

mamalocco · 26/01/2007 21:26

Twiglett - you should get on to them about commission - I've just order 45!

oooggs · 26/01/2007 21:49

Don't like party bags but felt I had too. Only put in it a piece of cake, packet of Cadury buttons and a mini milky way. So no plastic tat and 'jelly' sweets.

This was just my compromise.

DS was 3 and in a party bag last week had loads of haribo and a drumstick chew. Hes not having them. Nasty mum award?
