DS1 had a disco party for his 5th b'day. Held it in the village hall (£20) and had a mobile disco (£55). The guy who did it was brilliant and organised all the games. The kids all had a great time.

The only prob was my online Tesco delivery containing all my party food (but thankfully not the cake) was 7 hours late so the kids had nothing to eat - had to cut the cake to feed them (I had nothing in) and gave them all water to drink.

Other than the stress caused by Tesco's it was a fantastic day, required minimal parental input and i couldn't recommend it high enough!

Just planning DD's 5th birthday party. It is to be at the end of March. We have hired ahll (same as last year, £32 for 3 hours) for a 2 hour party, have also hired a big bouncy castle with slide (£65). I will do a craft table - thinking of decorating own mini cups (a la Baker Ross). Our friend will come and do a disco (no cost to us). And the far end of the hall will have the football nets and a couple of soft balls.

They'll be between 25-30 children think.

Food will be food boxes eaten on picnic blankets. Will prepare thes ethe nbight before. My sister will do DD's cake and also some cake nibbles for any grown ups. We willprovide refreshments for adults who stay.

Party bags - I plan these to be the cups they decorate. When done will take them away, fill with shredded paper, top with a few sweeties and their cake. Cake is to be individual cupcakes, so go nice on top.

Also thinking of doing a guest book for DD - will take photo of each child as the are playing, and encourage them to draw a picture of themsel and sign their name on paper. Will then put together in a mini scrapbook.

For dd1's 5th birthday in november we only invited 4 of her close friends from school.I ordered some poodle making kits(no sew)from Bemybear and we had a pink poodle pyjama party at home .They all wore pyjamas (obviously)and we stuffed and made the poodles ,gave them names ,birth certificates etc .Then we had pin the tail on the pink poodle and a luxury pass the parcel (rings and bracelets ,instead of sweets)and then we made dog collars and stuck gems on them and lots of party food.

Just had DS1's 5th party - I am 8 months pregnant!
Had it at home from 12-2pm and had 10 children. Started off woth making badges with their names on and snow flakes (there was a vague "snow" theme), musical statues and musical mats (like chairs but don't have enough of those)
Had lunch at about 12.45 0 just usual sandwiches etc.
After lunch at pass the parcel and pin the carrot nose on the snowman.
Had the birthday cake and they all went home.

Most tableware was throwaway so clearing up was minimal too.

It was great but I did discover of course that this is the first year he gets to invite people I don't know and there is one who I wouldn't be rushing to invite again!

camping party, would be a bit chilly in march though, brrrrr

cindyl · 24/01/2007 22:00

IT WASNT A CAMPING PARTY

Miaou · 24/01/2007 22:19

Cindy, I think AeFondKiss was saying she did a camping party for her child's 5th birthday

Nothing quite so elaborate as these (though I think they sound great!) - dd1 had a stripey party for her 5th birthday. It was great - everyone wore a stripey top or socks (even the sdults joined in!) - I made swiss-roll-style sandwiches and biscuits, and iced cakes and buns with stripes! People had great fun with stripey paper on presents etc. I think we even had stripey themed games (though can't remember what they were now!)

Appreciate that this probably isn't appropriate for what you are after autumnlover but it brought back fond memories so I thought I would share

went to a soft play place with about 18 children, this included younger siblings
I had made up party food boxes for each child beforehand with a selection of things
party favours were pencilcases with ruler/pencil/eraser etc etc inside with some sweets and then a piece of cake
dd was oldest child at party

bakedpotato · 24/01/2007 22:33

4 friends, after school (can't abide weekend bday parties)
musical bumps, statues, pass-the-parcel, choc crispies, sandwiches, carrot sticks, hulahoops, cake, DH danced with sparklers in the garden while they ate, which they all thought hilarious
paper plates/cups -- all went into the bin
the only timeconsuming thing was wrapping the pass-the-parcel
they all got a fairy wing/wand set from H&M when going home

Didn't have a party, had a family day out instead (gave dd the choice and that was her choice). It was bliss. Highly recommend.

DimpledThighs · 24/01/2007 23:34

hired a hall and had a loosely themed harry potter party.

dh was snape and all the boys came as harry potter and we played normal games and I put some harry potter figures on top of the cake.
