Has anyone ever done pass-the-parcel WITHOUT a prize between each layer?

And, if so, what was the reaction of the young party guests??!

So how about some more suggestions for forfeits then? - very timely this thread, I was just doing a parcel for pass the parcel at a party, and my list of forfiets is rather small.......
Ta in advance!

I'm sorry I don't think I understand what a forfeit is?

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 08/12/2006 22:03

Forfeit-to do something, we had things like 5 star jumps ,sing a song , go and get XXXX

I saw a box in Woolworths (I think it was) which you use for pass the parcel. You put all your little gifts in it and then close the lid and then there's a little remote control so that you can stop the music the box makes AND pop open the lid for the child who's turn it is, so that they can help themselves to something from inside. I've seen this at a party when a clown/entertainer was organising the games ... and I have to tell you that it was very, very strange to have p-t-p without all the bits of newspaper and cellotape all over the place!

In every layer, a forfeit related to the party theme (using the power of mumsnet - thank you) with a small sweetie stuck onto the slip of paper.

i thought that was how pass the parcel was played .... i.e no prizes between each layer and a box of maltesers at the end. have times changed then?

Lazy Mummy here. Last time I didn't even use a parcel! For the last few years I have always got a bit carried away with my wrapping which has resulted in a huge multi-layered parcel that has taken hours to wrap and lots of bored children 20 minutes into the game. This year we passed a thunderbird rocket in one direction and a doll in the other direction and whoever was holding either of those when the music stopped got a chocolate. My excuse is that I was only a few weeks off having DS3 at the time!

LittleSarah · 10/12/2006 11:43

Oh dear, I fear my dd being old enough for parties! We used to get nowt unless we got the final present. I guess I would personally put a wee chocolate in, if I really must!

paulaplumpbottom · 10/12/2006 17:36

I always think kids look a little bored with pass the parcel. Do they enjoy it or are we all falling into old habits.

I didn't do the pressie in each layer and put a forfeit (jump up and down, hop on one leg etc) in instead. Initially they were a bit irked but then really got into the swing of it.
