am i the only one who thinks baby showers are rubbish and completely unnecessary? I've just been invited to my 3rd one in 6 months today. can't think of much worse.

Let's guess the positions she's having sex w/her partner in now that the missionary is out.

Is he big enough for other kinds?

How about the gift of perineum massage oil.

Bet no one ever gets that .

See we had champers/wine and lots of the mums favourite nibbles at ours!!! And there were no games just music and nattering.

I do find the idea a bit cringeworthy. And agree with buying the present after the birth. I normally buy clothes that are gender specific (quite often a body suit and dungarees) and then get a rattle or similar from the children. And virtually none of my friends found out the sex of the baby beforehand.

What sort of showers have you guys been to? I have been to countless and have only ever played one game and even then all we had to do was guess the weight of the baby at birth for a gift certificate. Its always been afternoon tea w/champagne and presents. Also in the States the new Mom isn't usually bombarded with visiters, they tend to give them space unless you are very close family.

lockets i agree with you about not 'celebrating' before the baby has safely arrived. Several of my friends have refused to have baby stuff in the house until the baby is born, which may be an old superstition?

We have had them at work for people, 3 of us are pregnant at the moment and I don't think any of us want one, which has suprprised people. after te last one the mum to be went away with 3 bin bags worth of stuff ( mostly clothing).
To be honest I don't have the room for that.
We don't have a nursery in this house and I was planning to say you are welcome to buy us something but actually I want this bouncy chair from Babies R Us and some Mand S vouchers!

An American friend threw one for me. We all turned up and then she said that she had never been to one before and so what were we meant to do?!
I didn't really like it, because we got lots of presents then, but once DD arrived, no one got us anything extra. Which is fine, I didn't want 2 presents, but I would rather have had them once she was here than before.
