Help! Panicking over last minute party for 4yr & 1yr old.

At the last minute we've decided to have a party next weekend, mainly for our 4yr old, who's had quite a tough year. I was hoping to have it at home but we've currently got no kitchen & the house is covered in a fine layer of plaster & brick dust. (Though we did think getting a bunch of 3/4/5 yr olds to watch a group of builders hammering & mixing concrete might be good fun!)

Currently, I've hired a hall & have provisionally hired a company that's a bit like tumble tots/soft play combined, but they bring it to you & do parachutes, dancing, etc. as well if that's what you want. It is expensive but neither myself or dp are much good at organising people to do games & I'm worried that with the short notice & already struggling to do the food, we won't do a good job without the 'entertainers' & will end up feeling we messed up the party.

What do you think? I do love the idea of doing the whole thing myself but don't want to end up getting so stressed about it that I forget it's supposed to be about my children having fun!

(PS I also don't want people thinking 'what a posey cow' for spending too much, because I'm not, just a mum desparate to please her kids.)

does the hall have a kitchen?
While the kids are being entertained do a tray of fish fingers or chicken nuggets and chips.
Followed by ice cream in a cone!

or even hot dogs and crisps!
Kids dont eat much at these things so keep it simple!

Agree with the others about hot food if the hall has a kitchen. DS went to one where they had hired soft play stuff then had hot food followed by jelly and icecream I think it was. He had a lovely time. It sounds like you have a lot on our plate with your house at the moment which is really stressful to live with. Make your life easier and go ahead with the entertainment, next year you can do it differently if you want but there is no point in stressing yourself futher than you need to by trying to sort it all out yourself when you've got other things to worry about .

I think it sounds great if you can afford it - very sensible idea and you will enjoy the party more if you are not running around like berserk people.

For the food I would do party boxes if you really want to save hassle, as you can make them up in advance with a filled roll, few grapes, fairy cake, whatever, and just recycle the cardboard boxes at the end.
