pass the parcel and simon says not really halloween games, you could have sleeping ghosts?

what about pin the broomstick on the witch?

CorpseBride · 25/10/2006 21:51

We had a Halloween 4th birthday party last year. We did Pin the Witch on the Broom using bluetac instead of a pin. We did 'broomstick' racing in the garden, invented a 'Room on the Broom' game which involved me hurling as many soft toy dogs, cats, birds and a couple of rubber frogs into the middle of the room and whoever collected the most, won!

Apple-bobbing they should be OK with. There is also a 'mummy' game where you wrap someone up in loo-roll - we didn't do it and I don't know the details!!

Monster bumps - musical bumps to "scary" tunes, eg Ghostbusters theme.
Treasure hunt for rubber body parts (available from woollies).

Hi, I am having a halloween party and am planning some messy games. The first game involves putting plastic spiders and skeletons etc into different bowls of things such as jelly, flour, angel delight and rice crispies so the kids get really messy hands getting them out. The second game is cardboard boxes with holes cut in the top for hands to go through and in each box will be bowls of gruesome things such as flour and water with red food colouring for devils blood, cooked cold long spaghetti for ghouls intestines and paper mache shapes for skeleton bones. We are also going to have ring donuts tied up on string instead of apple bobbing because we have children as young as 18mths coming so didn't want any inconvenient drowning episodes!!
Hope this helps,
Lindsey

There was a pumpkin treasure hunt at our playgroup last week that my just 3 year old enjoyed - cardboard pumpkins hidden round the room, and a chocolate button for each one they found.

see netmums or Planet-Science although some of the ideas on PS are better for older kids.

I'm having a party for 9 3-5 year olds plus my 2yo ds2, will start with hunting for the party bag treats which will be wrapped up and 'hidden' in the living room, then food, then hide and seek with a prize for the best child at being 'invisible', then free play, then some calming activities like reading stories with witches/pumpkins etc in them, and colouring in halloween fridge magnets to stick in party bags before going home. Oh and a prize for best costume but not making a big deal of it, so no-one gets upset.

we did do variations on 'sleepy bunnies' at ds1's last birthday party but it all got a bit manic. As most of the kids haven't come to our house before I think they will appreciate some time just to check out his bedroom and toys and play whatever make-believe games they are currently into.

apologies if there are two messages from me but the first one I typed seemed to disappear so I have done it again.

Musical gravestones

Cut out gravestone shapes from grey paper (or sheets of newspaper and write RIP on the top) and lay them on the floor (one each). Play the music - when it stops each child has to jump on a gravestone. Then each time the music starts again, take away a gravestone (so there is one short). Then the next time the music stops the kid without a gravestone is out.

I think I could have explained that a lot better, but you get the idea!!!

musical zombies - like statues but with zombie dancing

ghost hunt - glow in dark ones from tesco around garden. children sent to find them. win prizes

musical hats - could be witches hats - one hat less than children. simialr principal to musical chairs

Thanks for the ideas.

Had is BD party today and the games went down a storm.

Especially the mummies one and hanging donuts off string and trying to eat with no hands. Had it as a race between 2-3 kids at time. Very funny!

Mercedes · 29/10/2006 23:27

I've been picking up games ideas as well. Our halloween party went down well and thanks also to everyone who sugegsted games.
I don't think the kids could believe it when they got to eat doughnuts.

Had ours yesterday - it was great. Top tips for anyone having a party today (especially for little ones 2-3yrs)

Print off Halloween pictures from computer and leave out with pens, crayons etc. for early arrivals to colour in/scribble on!

2 pass the parcels going round at once so keeps it interesting with a choccy and some scary stickers in each layer.

I served the food about half way through - put only savoury stuff out first. I spread a big sheet on the floor and pretended we were having an indoor picnic, result, one stain-free carpet. When everyone is bored of sandwiches, then bring out the cakes.

Did a Halloween story, made up as I went along, involving all the characters everyone was dressed up as (witches, vampires, ghosts, frog etc.) When their character is mentioned, they have to stand up turn around and sit back down. When I said Abracadabra, they all had to do it at once. Great fun.

Halloween CD from Woolies £2.97!!! Not original artists, but who cares. Great for monster dancing.

Large turreen of Mulled Cider for the grown ups!!! Got recipe off the net.

Good luck to everyone having a bash today.
