Food for party boxes - help!

For DD's 5th birthday next week I have thought of the following:

Chocolate spread sandwich (special request from DD)
2 party size sausage rolls
Satsuma
Frube/ Fromage Frais/ Cup of jelly
Bag of popcorn
2 custard creams
Bottle of drink
Slice of birthday cake (after the food)

What do you think? Do you think that's too much or too little? Is there anything which is uneccessary? I don't want to spend loads as I'm making up 30-odd of them!

Would you make up cups of jelly and put in the box with a spoon (cost £1.70) or save the bother and put in a fromage frais instead (cost £4.50) or buy Frubes and dispense with the plastic spoons (cost £6)?

Not sure about the jelly. But I'd definitely not bother serving them the birthday cake at the time - use it to put in the party bags (if you're having any). They probably won't eat it after all that tea - they'll be off running around again (imo). Good luck with the party - hope it goes well. I'm always a complete nervous wreck afterwards.

Is she particularly partial to custard creams ? I don't think mine would eat them nor would they have a satsuma and a pudding. We did a goody bag of grapes, carrot, cucumber etc, couple of sandwiches, cocktail sausage or two, cheese/pineapple on sticks, small bag each of hula hoops and choccy fingers, and that was for 7/8 yr olds.

We're not having party bags. Last year I was going to put the cake in the bags and all the children wanted to eat it at the table. Maybe I hadn't fed them enough.

Veggies? Do you mean vegetables or vegetarians? There aren't any vegetarians - I asked for special requirements on the reply slip.

Re vegetables, grapes etc. I wasn't sure how to put them in the box. Seemed a bit fiddly to wrap in clingfilm...

Would you not bother with a yoghurt thingy then?

was going to post same thing for ideas!
dd's party on wkend and I've got

juice box
raisins
sm bag crisps
2 cocktail sausages
3/4 sandwich - ham/cheese/jam

wasn't going to have yogurt - too expensive
will have fruit and veggies on table ( grapes, orange segments and carrot sticks) and some cookies for afterwards

I would have cake afterwords as well - don't put in box as they will eat that first!

hana · 20/10/2006 19:28

will put napkin and party blower in box as well

hulababy · 20/10/2006 19:29

Will all the children like chocolate spread sandwiches? I know DD wouldn't.

We asked in advance what sandwich and drink each child would like - gave choice of 3. And then made as required.

hulababy · 20/10/2006 19:31

We had food boxes for DD's 4th party (as mentioned below). Just found my similar post to this from back then. This is what I put in them:

1 small soft roll with their choice of filling (ham, chicken or veggie cheese)
1 carton/bottle of chosen drink (orange, apple or water)
1 small bag with some salad/veg in - cucumber, peppers, cherry tomato, celery
1 small portion of cheese
1 mini pack of Pringle crisps
1 mini chocolate/gingerbread man
1 chocolate crispy bun

There were lots of other cakes/buns and nibbles about too - for the adults, but the odd child who was hungry later had them as well.

chicaguapa · 20/10/2006 19:34

So that's...

Chocolate spread sandwiches
2 cocktail sausages/ sausage rolls
Hula hoops (BOGOF in Tesco at mo)
Drink
Some fruit
Slice of birthday cake

Just need to sort out what to put the fruit in then...

Didn't mean to ignore the last few messages. It took me so long to post the message that I cross posted!

DD has requested chocolate spread sandwiches and she doesn't eat ham or cheese or jam. There will be as many kids who won't eat whatever sandwich I make so I know I can't please everyone. There were some who didn't even bother replying to the invite so I think offering a choice would be beyond them!

I just put the fruit/veg in a small plastic sandwich bag inside the box

Fauve · 21/10/2006 10:04

I always have extra food on the table so they can help themselves when they've demolished the boxes - loads of crisps and bowls of cocktail sausages which they seem to eat in truly incredible quantities. You could do a communal bowl of fruit - IME they do actually take it.

We are doing party for 50 on sat and are having 1 (quarter)ham, 1 choc spread, and 1 jam s/w, 1 pack skips, 2 cocktail sausages, few carrot sticks, few grapes, 1 tiny choc orange muffin and 1 small gingerbread biscuit. Personally would avoid from frais from spillage point of view, also anything that needs opening or peeling by a grown up (pepperami, satsumas etc) and at most parties I've been surprised how many kids dont like sausage rolls and jelly. Dont mean to sound like a know-it-all sorry. Oh and its much cheaper to do paper cups and squash than bottles of drink we did it last year and towards the end of the party loads of kids were asking for more drink and we had no cups or further drink. HTH.
