How many guests and where are you holding it (church hall, your house etc)?

Beauregard · 02/10/2006 12:13

I will probably try and invite most of her class so,about 30 and it will be in a church hall.

DD1 had her 5th birthday last year, quite near the start of term. She didn't know anybody, neither did we, so I had a dsico for her in a church hall, and it was great because I got to meet the other parents too. The bloke that did the disco also did all the games, pass the parcel, best dancer etc which was great because I hate all that.

She loved it, and I found it very stress free. She also knows that she will not have a big party this time, but it's much easier now because I know who her special friends are. I think we're going to go to the pictures this year.

I'm a bit crap at parties

Forgot to say, I invited the whole class, because the cost of dj and hall didn't go up per guest, like it would have done at a bouncy play place etc.

bouncy castle and games - perhaps divide into smaller groups to control numbers on castle at once. Treasure hunt, What's the time Mr Wolf, Stick in the mud.

And I used these for the party bags!

Any estimation as to the cost of a Dj?

Depends where you are in the country. We are Midlands. We paid £180 but that was for 2.5 hour party, bouncy castle and face painting, games prizes, disco for 45 kids and NO STRESS. (BTW I didn't pay, her generous godmother did, we would never have afforded it)

Beauregard · 02/10/2006 12:44

Im in kidderminster so not far from midlands
thats quite a lot .
I wonder if we could hire lights and stuff and do it ourselves?

If I'd just had the disco it would have been less. TBH, I was v depressed at the time and felt we weren't 'fitting in', so having a big party was as much therapy for me as to give dd1 a great time. There are other djs who cost less, or could you double up with another parent? I would add that the lack of stress was worth the money. (and of course getting someone else to pay helped!)

how about a clown? We had a great magic lady last year for 30+ children and she kept them entertained for an hour for about £70.
This year we did party games - less money but a lot more stress for me (needed a lie down afterwards lol)

Beauregard · 02/10/2006 19:16

No thanks dd wouldn't thank me for that as she is a bit scared of them and lots of the other parties have had clowns.

ah pelvic floor, actually our clown came as a magic lady not a clown as she said that our guests, inc some 3yos, were too young for a clown.
So would a magic person work?
Or how about a music lady - jo jingles type thing?

Could you go to the local Drama group and get a OTT teenager to run your games for you? I have an OTT friend that I get to do my games.

Beauregard · 04/10/2006 19:37

What's an OTT ???

Beauregard · 04/10/2006 19:45

guess you need an OTT friend to know what that means.
