We have always spent NYE with friends having a civilised dinner party, now we have all got kids that aren't easily transportable. So it's getting harder and harder to find a compromise.

What do you do on NYE?

stay in

anniediv · 25/09/2006 14:49

stay in like the gobbledigooks!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 25/09/2006 14:50

usually stay at my dads and stay up watching the goings on via the beeb. its hard celebrating nye down here, as my family are scots and we want to be back home doing it properly!!!

intergalacticwalrus · 25/09/2006 14:50

We stay in, but have people over to stay. That way, we all get to have a drink and enjoy adult company. last 2 nyes were great fun for us

foxtrot · 25/09/2006 14:50

snore on the sofa, according to DH!

WigWamBam · 25/09/2006 14:50

We stay in too - usually with Jools Holland on the box. Not much alternative really when dd has to go to bed at 7pm ...

HuwEdwards · 25/09/2006 14:50

we get together in one house, bung the kids together in a room with food and DVDs while adults have a meal and get pissed.

Nemo1977 · 25/09/2006 14:51

we always stay in too..lol Not much fun..you could have a huge sleepover with the kids depending on their ages?

Quadrophenia · 25/09/2006 14:54

we have a party!!! we invite all our friends with children, they bring their kids along and whilst the childrn watch dvd's, make a mess etc we get drunk! All our friends bring their own food and alcohol, and there are often sober adults as a few have to drive. Its the one night i allow my children to stay up really late, we get sleeping bags and duvets and put them in the living room and invariably some children fall asleep!

biglips · 25/09/2006 15:00

take the kids with you as im sure they have their kids with them too

sandyballs · 25/09/2006 15:00

Invite friends round with their children and eat and drink far too much. Great fun. My DDs have managed to stay up until midnight for the last two NYE (they are 5 now), and we get a lie in the next day because they are so shattered

GreenLumpyTonsils · 25/09/2006 15:01

Put the kids to bed (ours are only 2 and 3), have friends over, get plastered, eat nice food, play music....it's nice

chicaguapa · 25/09/2006 21:48

What we have done in previous years is gone to a particular friend's house where we can all stay over. They have children the same age as DD (5) and DS (2) so they keep each other amused. This year those friends are both working on NYE so another friend (who also goes to previous friend's but doesn't stay over) has offered to be the host. But there's nowhere to stay and they only have a baby. So it's DD really and what to do with her as DS can go in a travel cot and be moved to the car later? We don't live in the area anymore and will be spending the festive season with MIL who can't have the children that night.

someone on here posted about their NYE where they had a (I think) Thai new year - start the party at 4 in the afternoon and celebrate new year coming in in Thailand at about 7pm - sounded like a fab idea. Those with small kids can then take them home, and thos who are so inclined can stay longer.

MerlinsBeard · 25/09/2006 21:57

we go to bed at usual time DP usually working and this year we should have been due on NYE (m/c) so will be a sombre night in the monster household

for you mum of monsters.

We always go to a party, various venues, but can always take our ds, as everyone's in the same boat. Last 2 NYEs have gone to a friend's in the village, kids have their own party in playroom, we all get plastered, toddle home about 2am.

NomDePlume · 26/09/2006 10:16

NYE is a total anti-climax IMO. I've always disliked the forced jollity of it.

DH and I usually have a bottle or two of something in front of Jools Holland. We have, in the past, had people over for dinner too which is always a good laugh.

hulababy · 26/09/2006 10:21

We stay in too. Sometimes have parents or in laws round. They have offered to baby sit, but TBH I always find NYE an anti climax, and a rip off when it comes to food/drink prices. have done the big nights out in past, so don't mind so much now anyway.

Well when we just had DS we tried various things but it was always too much of a compromise, expense etc. So for the last 2 years we have booked in at the local italian for 6.00 pm or so and taken the kids out. They have crackers and party poppers on the tables and other families there (it is an converted village hall) and the kids enjoy it, even DD as a 7mo had a good time and even more so last year as a 19mo. Then we go home, put the kids to bed, open a bottle of wine and maybe play scrabble.

KBear · 26/09/2006 10:33

We get together with our mates, bring all the kids and have a bit of a "do".

DH supposed to be working this NYE night though so perhaps early to bed for me this year.
