If you child has a birthday party to go to and it's on a weekend when you have guests, do you still let your child go to the party? The party is 2 hours on the Saturday morning.

Gobbledigook · 15/09/2006 10:54

although ds1 would be at party, ds2 and ds3 would still be around (except ds2 bobs out for swimming lesson )

Depends on who's party it is (best friend or is child more "one of the whole class" who has been invited).
Also depends on who the guests are (how often do you see them, are they more your friends or childs? or grandparents who you only see once a year).
That doesnt' answer the question does it? I would decide based on answers to the above tho (and whether child wants to go to party).

OK, BIL, SIL and their dd's (4 and 6 months) are coming on Thursday night to Sunday.

Friday ds1 will be at school and ds2 in nursery for pm.

Saturday ds1 has a party 10-12, ds2 has swimming lesson 11.30-12.

Other than that - we are all theirs

Whaddaya think?

I have just turned down two party invitation for DD as they fell on the (same) weekend that BIL, SIL and DD's baby cousin are visiting us. They were friends from her old nursery, who she doesn't really see any more so, although it was lovely to get invites amnd she'd have enjoyed them, I don't feel too bad about having to delcine. had they been close friends or new friends from school 9started last week) I would probably have taken her.

WigWamBam · 15/09/2006 10:56

I'd let the child go to the party. Parties are incredibly important to children - and it's only two hours when all said and done.

That's what I think WWB - it's a class party and the kids love that. Plus the class is a new mix (they get mixed as they change year) and it's pretty much the start of the year - I really feel he is missing out if he doesn't go and he was really excited when he got the invitation this morning.

I'd say if ds1 wants to go - let him. Sounds like he will see plenty of his cousins the rest of the time.

Gobbledigook · 15/09/2006 10:58

Thanks Malory! BIL/SIL are taking their dd out of school on the Friday so they can come up on Thursday night!!! I did tell them I wouldn't be taking ds1 or ds2 out of school/nursery.

OP posts:
CheesyFeet · 15/09/2006 10:59

Let the child go, definitely.

Depending on how well you know the hosts, could you be cheeky enough to ask that the cousin comes too? I wouldn't mind if it were my dd's party.

flatmouse · 15/09/2006 10:59

And in reality - how much playing would your DS1 be doing with his cousins? I'm guess he's older as he's at school and in a different class?

Gobbledigook · 15/09/2006 11:00

I thought of that CF, I could pay for her probably as it's soft play - but ds1 would be there with all his friends and she wouldn't know anyone.

GDG - If school one, and esp with new mix, then yes, I'd let DD go in that situation.

aDAdOnMumsnet · 15/09/2006 11:01

Yes, let them go to the party. What's a couple of hours?

TooTicky · 15/09/2006 11:01

Definitely let child go or he/she may resent the visitors.

I wouldn't mind either. And BIL buggers off to golf for the whole of Saturday when we are there! VERY rude!

OP posts:
ledodgyrobespierre · 15/09/2006 11:04

Yeah i'd let them go.

dontwanttobespotted · 15/09/2006 11:07

Yes, would definitely let them go (did so when PIL were staying)
