SHAKESPEARIAN THEMED 40th BIRTHDAY PARTY - HELP!!

I am organising a Shakespearian themed 40th B'day party for DH and I know how creative MNers are, so please help me with any great ideas.

So far we have

1 x village hall!!
1 x Hog Roast (hopefully)
1 x band

and a v small budget!!

I was thinking of covering teh boring trestle tables with gold or deep red cloths. HAving loaves of bread (home made poss) and slabs of cheese, chutneys and tankers of celery sticks on each one, which along with the hog roast will be the food sorted. Decorations are hard as it is a boring hall which is big, but difficult to decorate. Any ideas???

We may go to france and get slabbs of beer/wine etc and borrow glasses from Sainsbury's.

I need ideas for cheap, but effective invites for 100 people. The total budget is about £500 (plus band) and teh hog roast is £300 (serving 100 people is good value)

Come on help me please

AllieDelOllio · 13/09/2006 20:49

i'd be one of the craggy old witches from macbeth

Go for it Mars

Actually venue may have to change as village hall is booked, I need to try the scout hut or find someone with a barn

Ok.... you could be the unnamed Queen in Cymbeline (typical wicked step mother)

Innogen... the weak and almost characterless daughter of king in above play

Ophelia.... from Hamlet...before, after or during her going mad (preferably before the suicide)

Viola... the cross dressing twin of Twelfth Night

Olivia... who spurned Orsino but loved Viola and ended up married to the twin brother (above play)

Lady Macbeth... wife of Macbeth... play title self evident

One of the 3 witches.... from Macbeth

One of King Lear's daughters... Gonoril (the eldest), Regan (the middle daughter) or Cordelia (the youngest) who refused to play her father's silly games

Desdemona....married to the Moor, murdered after Iago's lies which fuelled Othello's jealousy.

Do you need more? I have more!!!!!!!!!!

AllieDelOllio · 13/09/2006 20:58

i'd be desdemona.. always wanted to go out with a black man.. Barn sounds good..free hay to perch upon

I want beautiful and feisty. I was thinking Kate from Taming of the shrew, or Hero or Beatrice perhaps.
