What shall I serve and how much?

For some reason my mind has gone blank. Confused

Pizza
Sausage rolls
Crisps
Carrot / cucumber batons with dips
Jaffa cakes / biscuits / choc fingers

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2013 21:42

I googled and found this Grin

So I have;

Birthday Cake
Sandwiches - ham/cheese. 1/4 sandwich of each?
Crisps
Grapes/carrot sticks/cucumber sticks
Chocolate crispies

I'm not sure abut making jellies.

Which of the above (if any?) will have egg in?

Sausage rolls? Mini ones? Do you have to cook them first? (I never buy the things as I don't like them.)

OP posts:
gandalfcat · 03/08/2013 21:44

mini sausages, mini scotch eggs, grapes, as well as devons suggestions

googlenut · 03/08/2013 21:45

Where is the party. As a veteran party giver, cheapest and most efficient option is to send someone to McDonald's. £3 a head and. Everyone gets what they want and no waste xx

Rowlers · 03/08/2013 21:46

Can you do hot? Hot dogs in buns are always wolfed down.

gandalfcat · 03/08/2013 21:46

wouldn't bother with jellies, but if a hot day what about ice lollies/choc ices? or serve an ice cream buffet ie bowls of ice cream and a variety of sauces, sprinkles, toppings, wafers etc?

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2013 21:51

I can't do hot or frozen. It's in a sports hall....no tables so picnic on the floor.

Please don't say party boxes would be best, as it's too late to order them.

McDonalds on other side of town....and couldn't trust MIL with order. It's really good idea though.... Surely a happy meal isn't £3 these days, is it?

£3 a head x 20 kids is £60! I'll come and do your catering for £50Wink especially as my experience tells me one white loaf makes enough mini sandwiches for 20 children! Throw in crisps, mini sausages and sausage rolls, iced biscuits, chocolate fingers and you're done.

gandalfcat · 03/08/2013 22:01

what about arranging a pizza delivery?

Beamur · 03/08/2013 22:06

Depending on your knowledge of the kids coming - I'd say also to cater for vegetarians and (this would be relevant for me) non-gelatin eaters too.
I'd suggest a few sandwiches, crisps, breadsticks, babybel cheeses always seem to go down well, carrot & cucumber sticks and maybe mini sausages. Pizza and sausage rolls always seem to be left at parties I've taken DD to.
For 'pud' - cake, biscuits etc but I'd also take some fruit - grapes or blueberries/strawberries perhaps. Things that can be easily eaten by hand.

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2013 22:12

No vegetarians (although I don't usually do meat at parties), just one child who can't eat egg, although is very good at knowing what he can and can't eat.

I nearly killed him once, though Shock Blush so don't want to take any risks with party rings etc.

The pizza's would have to arrive at exactly the right time, and I would be too nervous to trust delivery.

Hot dogs, you can get veggie ones if needed.

Cake

Drinks

barbarianoftheuniverse · 03/08/2013 22:19

kebabs with mini sausages/cucumber/tomato/carrot/cheese cubes etc

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2013 22:24

The hotdogs would be cold, though.

Wouldn't the kids pick the bits they don't like off the kebabs?

OP posts:
Beamur · 03/08/2013 22:32

I'd keep it simple. Serve food that works at ambient temperature, stick with simple plain foods - sandwiches/crisps etc - all they need is a bit of fuel rather than a fancy meal.
The sweet stuff is where it's at at parties Grin

LynetteScavo · 06/08/2013 18:39

Well, none of them like grapes.....and carrot sticks and cucumber sticks weren't that popular.

The chocolate crispies were a big hit. Grin
