BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR 11 YEAR OLD

My daughter will be 11 in March and would really like a "cool" party as this is her final year at primary school. Problem is, we can't think of any "cool" ideas that will appeal to both boys and girls. Previously she's had farm, riding, discos, Harry Potter, Hawaiian, tobogganing parties. Any ideas please?

Sorry, forgot to add we live in Solihull so trips to Alton Towers, Madam Tussaud's etc is not feasible.

How about iceskating?

WideWebWitch · 10/01/2004 14:43

Cinema and/or pyjama party/sleepover?

How about the laser quest party? It was suggested for beetroot's 10-yr-old and I've already booked for my 11-yr-old in April. I'm pretty sure girls would enjoy it too. The one we're going to gives you 2 games and a buffet meal (I'll copy the menu in a minute) for £6.95 a head.

JanH · 10/01/2004 15:26

beety's and mine are both boys I forgot to mention!

These are the details from where we're going:

Actually it's £7.95 a head, I keep thinking they're under 11 and they won't be.

HTH!

lazerquest sounds good. Might do that for my son one year.

Have you ever tried a bowling party, Jampot? That's got an element of coolness - bowling areas attract lots teenagers as well as families. My 9 year old son had a bowling party last year. All the children enjoyed it, the cost was reasonable and it was well organised, if noisy.

My DD has just had a Quasar (sameaslaser)for her 12th birthday. I took 6 girls age 11-13 and they all really enjoyed it. They had 2 games of quaser and a meal afterwards. This was at our local Mega bowl I know other megabowls do this so you could check it out. They were all given a party bag and a voucher for a free bowling game.Six children is the minimum number I dont know the maximum.

The best party I went to at that age was a friend's sleepover. Her parents provided us with a video camera, and we had to make a film during the evening - we could decide what it was about etc. and we had fantastic fun dressing up, doing make up etc. and dishing out roles - cameraman, director, actors etc. Of course we all had to be in it too, so we took turns with some things. Then we had a real midnight feast.

Lisa78 · 11/01/2004 18:13

what about one of those where someone comes and does all the little girls nails etc?

JanH · 11/01/2004 19:57

She wants it for boys too though Lisa!

Oh - I don't know though...

Thanks for all your suggestions. We've decided to go for a completely inappropriate idea - horse race night!!!! The kids will all get "funny money" and "bet" on films of horses. It's apparently a great fundraiser but also good party. I'll let you know how we get on.
PS: We did want a casino night but everyone felt it was inappropriate for kids to bet!!!!!!!

jampot, that sounds great, they will love it!

Hope you have nice long steeplechases though? Flat races are over too fast. The only race we ever bet on is the National (of course) and we are glued to the telly for the whole thing, bouncing up and down and yelling. Excellent idea.

Well, we had horse race party last night and it was a very interesting night. The kids all loved it and they soon got the hang of betting!!!
However, I never expected quite how loud the kids would be and a couple of the boys we invited were ruining it a little when they nicked others money. Can recommend it but not as a house party and with help. AH (not standing for absent but a part of the anatomy!) decided to stay upstairs for the whole event which meant I was taking bets, controlling 16 kids () paying out winnings, preparing food and running film for over 2.5 hours single handedly! Even my sister let me down.
