New thread :) Everyone welcome.

No 'meaning of Easter' here either - just chocolate Grin

I'll do an egg hunt for the children again as DS asks me to every year and we may have a special lunch but that's it.

I'm taking DD to baking class in a little while and they'll be making heart shaped biscuits that we can give to Dh and I have a card and a lego box (guess where DS gets his lego obsession from) that I can hide a small note in but that's it. I'm fed up of being the only one that bothers

Tinkerisdead · 14/02/2013 19:59

When i say the meaning of easter i mean merely that MIL would say "dinner? You say? On Sunday? ...oh i think im at a craft fair why is it a special occasion".

And im loving the idea of the easter beagle!!!

DTisMYdoctor · 14/02/2013 20:51

Blimey, you're all still going! I popped into the thread last year (under a different name), when I got some amazing ideas for DS's pirate party (and a very kind MNer sent me a pirate waistcoat for DS, which he still runs around in). I think the thread I was on dropped off my threads when RL got in the way. I'm going to try and read a few pages and see what parties you've all been planning. I remembered the thread when DS started talking about whether to have a superhero or Star Wars party this year (for his birthday in July!!!!!). I'll subtly be pushing for superhero I think!

stealthsquiggle · 14/02/2013 21:05

Oh, do Star Wars - that's fun (mind you, so I'd superheroes - not fussy, me[grin)

Blatherskite · 14/02/2013 21:12

Oh yes, we're still here. It's lovely when people pop back, we've had a few recently

stealthsquiggle · 15/02/2013 09:45

Apologies for garbled post. I was tired, not drunk, honestly Grin

DW - easter beagle

DTisMYdoctor · 15/02/2013 12:55

Grin stealthsquiggle

I'm trying not to think about DS's party too much just yet - he'll be five this summer, so it's more than likely he'll change his mind before too long. He's really into batman and star wars just now, so at the moment, either are a distinct possibility.

I accidentally had a scroll through superhero parties on pinterest and came across a good idea for a 'superhero academy' party i.e. they do lots of superhero training activities/games and then get a certificate at the end. I've no idea what to do for a star wars party though!

Tinkerisdead · 15/02/2013 14:45

Oh god stealth you just whirred my memory and when i was a kid my mum had a Peanuts annual and yes it had a big strip on the easter beagle!!

Me i'd prefer a Superheroes party but thats cos as a mother of girls i want to do this

stealthsquiggle · 15/02/2013 17:46

Be careful with superhero academy - I had "spy academy" all planned only to be told scornfully by DS "we don't want to learn to be spies, we just want to be spies" Hmm

DW - for some reason I never quite understood the Easter beagle always got credit for eggs trails and the like when I was a child. DH just got a pile of eggs. I care more, so my tradition wins Grin. I have "dear X follow the Y coloured eggs, love from the Easter Beagle" cards that I can email you if you want them, although you might have to explain to DD1 who the hell the Easter Beagle is first.

stealthsquiggle · 15/02/2013 17:56

I have done (well, helped with) a Star Wars party - sometime when I am (for a change) not on my phone in an airport, I will post some sensible suggestions and links.

Tinkerisdead · 15/02/2013 19:02

Thanks stealth but dd clearly expects the bunny rather than a beagle. "You know that bunny, the one that brought me knickers in the garden!"

stealthsquiggle · 15/02/2013 20:21

Vests this year then, or socks Grin?

Blatherskite · 15/02/2013 21:23

She'll be telling that story when she's an adult as one of those "you'll never believe how crazy my Mum is" things Wink

stealthsquiggle · 15/02/2013 23:03

Either that or she will be mercilessly teased at school for insisting that the Easter Bunny always brings underwear

DTisMYdoctor · 16/02/2013 08:40

That wouldn't have occurred to me Stealth re superhero academy. How old was your DS. I look forward to reading your Star Wars suggestions when you've got time.

All this Easter beagle (?!?!) chat is making me think about Easter though. I'm a bit resentful as we always do Easter Sunday at MILs and the egg hunt etc tends to be a bit crap. Any attempts for me to interfere are usually frowned upon. I can still do an egg hunt at home for DS though - I've never bothered before, mostly because we didn't have time for such frivolities when I was growing up! We've also got friends with young children coming to stay on Easter Monday so I can plan some Easter things in my own home this year!

I loved the superhero tutus!!

Tinkerisdead · 17/02/2013 08:25

I promise I won't do underwear this time then, what else will fit in? Hair clips... I don't want piles of party bag tat cos I get like the BlathersGrinch.

Ooh noooo I'd be gutted if I had to do Easter at someplace crap. Last year I got an Easter tree on eBay as we'd made eggs over the years so this year I'm getting that out. I need to start planning it all. Tree with eggs and naice table. Egg hunt, I think I have 24 eggs but that now needs to split between the two dd's. so ideas to fill those?

Dinner: starter/main and a nice creamy, fresh pudding not stodgy like Xmas.

Blatherskite · 17/02/2013 15:35

I picked up little chocolate eggs when I was in M&S today ready for our hunt.

Spent ages finding a bag that had a good mix of colours in Blush

Blatherskite · 17/02/2013 15:38

What about instead of lots of tiny things, you put little bits of a bigger thing in the eggs DW? I keep meaning to do a DIY advent calendar with a little bit of a LEGO model in it for DS but always run out of time. Maybe if I started now....

My plan is to find one with 24-ish steps and put the pieces for each step in with the instructions so that he ends up doing the final step on Xmas eve.

stealthsquiggle · 18/02/2013 10:06

Blathers I always end up picking through bags to find the ones with the right balance of colours too Grin

DW, I was only teasing - I think pretty socks would be nice, actually - Father Christmas always beings pants and socks in our household.

DT - I just checked - DS's secret agent/spy party was his 6th. Of course, your DS is almost certainly probably not as awkward as DS, and may well be fine with Super Hero Academy.

Star Wars party - we made light sabres out of pipe insulation but in much the same way as this woman did with pool noodles - except that we got the DC to make them (I seem to remember they coloured the handles in themselves and then we helped them tape it up). The hit of the party was "using the force" (and the light sabres) to keep a balloon in the air - we divided them into two teams and they had different colour balloons. They would have kept playing that one as long as we let them.

They also did pin the light sabre onto someone or other, and we themed pass the parcel (asteroids, iirc - foil wrapped!). Apart from some colouring, I think that was about it. There are some seriously OTT game ideas here though.

this was the cake, although I don't recommend it if you want to stay sane Grin

DT - it sounds as though you could write off Easter Sunday and do stuff your way on Easter Monday - especially if you have guests as an excuse.

stealthsquiggle · 18/02/2013 10:09

Oh, and star wars invitations Grin

Blatherskite · 18/02/2013 11:48

The kids were painting and I decided it was a good time to tidy out the craft cupboard.

It is never a good time to tidy out the craft cupboard

stealthsquiggle · 18/02/2013 11:54

Blathers - the only good time to clear out the craft cupboard is when the DC are not there - that way you can bin all the moonsand and plasticine redundant stuff without them noticing (Also useful in my case if DH isn't around either, as I have been known to have a hissy fit go at him for making arbitrary decisions to throw stuff out [hypocrite])

Blatherskite · 18/02/2013 12:31

I binned loads when they got bored of painting and wandered off to watch Cats V Dogs or whatever it was on this morning.

I've found loads of kits we've never even started though. Looks like we'll be busy over half term making them all :)

Tinkerisdead · 18/02/2013 17:38

Nobody breathe....dont look now but dd1 is eating meatballs. ....

As you were.

Blatherskite · 18/02/2013 18:32

Homemade or Horsemeat?

Wink
