Christening Gift From Godfather

Hi all, I wonder if you can help me. My DP's brother has just become a dad for the first time and has asked DP to be Godfather which he is really chuffed about. Can anyone suggest a great idea for a suitable present from a Godparent for the Christening? We want to get him something really special, but are not sure what is suitable as we are not religious but the babies mother and family are. Thanks

My dd's godfather got her the most beuatiful diamond cross necklace (pretty sure that it is not real diamonds) but looks pretty special.
Other things that I had from my godfather was a charm bracelet that he then got a new charm each birthday for. A real keepsake from him over all my years and something to treasure for ever

in some jewellers they have a silver scroll tube for the baptismal certificat to go into. as a personal touch you could get it engraved.

to be honest just because they are religious doesn't mean they want "god gifts" :) they will appreciate you efforts whatever you buy

Thanks Bellie, those items sound great, although Godchild is a boy, so something a bit more boyish maybe. I was thinking of a lovely christening bracelet but I believe the grandparents are getting him something like that. Any other ideas? Smile

What about a solid silver photo frame - links of london do nice christening presents, have a look on their website.

Hazellnut · 22/03/2006 14:02

The things dd got for her christening that I liked most were things she could use when she was older - jewellery mainly, so not relevant for a boy but you could get a nice pair of cufflinks and engrave with date on back (I did this for dh for our wedding and on the birth of our dd) or dd also got a silver napkin ring which was engraved.

oohhh sorry no experience of buying for boys I'm afraid. Off the top of my head you can get a christening certificate holder oor a keepsake box. A St Christopher is also a good gift for a boy I think.

A very good bottle of wine that he can keep until he's 18.

FruitAndNutcase · 22/03/2006 14:11

Thanks Custardo, you are right. We just werent sure what was involved as neither of us have even been to a christening before, let alone been godparents! Lol

Thank you, some great ideas there. Hazellnut I love the idea of cufflinks and babyannabel a silver picture frame is a great idea. Bellie, we had thought of a keepsake box, as it is something they can look back on. Hausfrau, your DSS's godfather sounds wonderful, pocketwatch is a good idea. Littlerach, I think a bottle of wine is great, although I think his dad will probably drink it! lol

We made our nephew a time capsule.

ASDA do a lovely My First Bible that fastens with a ribbon.

What about something collectable? Do Cherished Teddies do a christening themed one?

If the grandparents are getting a charm bracelet how about a seperate charm to add to it?

EvesMama · 22/03/2006 14:28

a book called i love you forever..it is based upon a mother and her son, then the son and his daughter but it has a beautiful story and would be a lovely book for the aprents to read to him..or the other book we love is guess how much i love you..both simple yet meaningfulSmile

She also got a case of wine in bond to drink on her 21st (i will nick and replace with cheap crap that 21yos like and guzzle myself Grin)

and a gorgeous amethyst and white gold ring

helsi · 22/03/2006 14:31

Oh yes I forgot about that - dd also got a lovely crab apple tree that we planted in the front garden. My brother apparantly got an apple tree from his godparents asn when my mum and dad moved they dug it up and took it with them - 27 years later!!

mckenzie · 22/03/2006 14:41

I love the idea of a tree! Wish I'd thought of that when i needed gifts for my godchildren (I have 7!)

FruitAndNutcase · 22/03/2006 15:19

Thank you all so much, some great ideas. I really love the idea of planting a tree. We live nearly 200 miles away from him so I think that would be a lovely keepsake for him as we are not always there. Thank you all once again x

Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but Kit Heath do lovely silver nappy pins that you can put charms on to. We've done that a few times for pressies and they seem to go down well.
