DS2 birthday present ideas

Ds2 will be one soon (can't believe time has gone so quickly). Family and friends are asking what he'd like which is very generous. BUT we have a ds almost five so we have most things (toys, buggy, car seat etc). Anyone any ideas/experience of what we could ask for? Don't really like to ask for money/vouchers as I know most will want to give a gift which is fair enough.TIA.

Nice wooden toys - even ones he's too young to play with.

I always recommend sandpits for first birthdays as DS had so much fun with his last year. However I guess you might already have one?

How about another garden type toy that they will both get fun from -would everyone club together to get a big piece of equipment like a climbing frame that can be added to with rope ladders, swings, ropes etc?

Thanks. We do have sandpit and garden not big enough for proper climbing frame etc but may see if we can get something smaller.

Hi. We've tended to get relatives to help us buy big things for ds2, as we have same problem of feeling like we already own all the toys he could need. Best was a wooden play house (needed lots of contributions for that though!)

Alternative (one of ds's joint christmas presents) is to get family to buy you days out - we couldn't book a panto that ds2 would have enjoyed/not slept through, but we took them both on a santa special steam train with christmas money from one of their aunts.

Thanks. Playhouse is a really good idea. Do you think Ds1 is too old for that at almost five, or do you think he would still enjoy it?

my ds1 is 5 in September and he still enjoys playing in their play house. Have you got time to go and view some so that you can find out if it's the sort of thing your ds would be in to? We've got a 'kitchen' and all the plastic food in their now, also things like outsize chalk (for drawing on the path) but in summer their paper and pencils will go in their too - any indoor toys really, as long as 'just visiting'.

another vote for a play kitchen here. We have a hand-me-down one and I'm not sure I would have bought one for the DSs but they love it. We have picnics, cafes, parties you name it.

< phew, I don't think anyone's going to notice the errant 'their'>
