I am planning to make this for DD's birthday party this week. www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Fire-Breathing-Dragon-Cake

The trouble is, the sweets used to decorate it are all American - any idea of what alternatives could be used for them? in particular:

Chocolate covered Graham Crackers
Fruit Rollups

Thanks!

Could you use after eight mints or similar for the spines, cut across the diagonal, or melt some chocolate, pour it into a baking tray and then cut it into squares and then triangles when it's cooled? Fruit pastilles cut in half for the claws? A marsh mallow cut in half horizontally, so you have 2 thinner circles, would work for the eyes.

toblerone for spines
jelly bean claws
fruit winders for fire

Ooh - thank you - some good ideas - do please keep them coming. Any ideas how I could make the wings?

I think fruit winders (kellogs - no idea where they'd be in the supermarket - but I suppose the breakfast section since kellogs) are basically fruit rollups.

Graham crackers are sort of like digestives, so I reckon you could just cut the corners off any kind of chocolate covered shortcake bar - or penguins or something.

Hmmm - those wings need a wide thingie.. I've seen recipes for 'fruit leather' online that you could do if you wanted to get a bit more involved? Or you might be able to roll them thinner....

oooh or microwave some neat jelly cubes so they melt, pour them onto something non-stick, then peel it off ?

I'd cut the wings out of fondant icing, I think, and lay them flat along the Dragon's back.

How involved in the sugarcraft do you want to get? You could make those wings out of pastillage which you could get from a local sugarcraft shop or from hobbycraft.

He's a cute dragon. Are you going to get dry ice (a lot harder here than in the US)? Alternatively you could give him one of these instead?
